Multiple coats of wax

I'm having a detail done here in Paris today and after I get the car back I was going to apply 1-2 more coats of wax (the same Meguiar's product as used by the detailer). I read on the Meguiar's site that this "layering" process can add a bit more lustre/protection to the wax. My interest is mainly in protection and specifically for the front of the car to be able to protect it from bugs and get them off with the self-serve car wash "wand".

Any advice on whether to simply apply the additional layers right on the new wax or to do something in particular to make sure the additional layers "stick"?

Also, I've just picked up a bottle of "Bug Off" from Griot's Garage and plan to try it out on an upcoming road trip. Any lessons learned on application, how long you keep it on the front of the car and getting it off would be much appreciated.

Just make sure you're not layering Meguiar's "Cleaner Wax" as that will just rub itself out and replace it with the new layer. If you want to layer, use a caranuba wax or even a sealant.

^^^What he said. The same goes for their #20 sealant. It's mildly abrasive so it can't be layered. #21 on the other hand is my favorite sealant by a WIDE margin. It doesn't quite have the gloss of say, Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze, but the depth and wetness are unreal.

I hope you're not using the high pressure wands at a car wash. Those will strip whatever sealant or wax you're using right off.

Along these same lines, I'm trying to apply several layers on my ZCP wheels. I've got one good coat of Chemical Guys Wheel Guard on there now. Can I just apply additional coats right on top?

Depending on what type of sealant it is it might require 24 hours to cure between coats.

Zaino is a sealant and is awesome for layering.

Does it really matter to add 1, 2 or 3 coats? Does it actually improve on the shine with added layers? About to do a full detail this weekend and want to get ready!!!

Prep is more important then LSP or layers of LSP for the final look. For a full blown detail: wash, clay, wash, do whatever paint correction is necessary 1 or 3 steps (three steps being heavy compound meg 105, light compound 205, polish ultrafina or menzerma 85d), then put on your LSP of choice.

Most wheel cleaners that remove brake dust will also remove however many wax coats you have.

It depends on the LSP you're using but for 99% of people, 3-5 is that point.

That's why I don't use them. Why bother if you're just going to strip it all off? I just use a mf mitt and regular car soap. Safer for the finish and doesn't take long at all.
