Rode in an E93 today... regrets?

Close to a year ago, I had put a deposit on an E93. Prior to going through with the deal, an E92 with low miles, loaded with options, and CF roof came up for sale. It was enthusiast owned with a few Dinan and Fabspeed upgrades. Top notch. I bought that car the same day it came for sale and was/am incredibly happy with it. Out of the 15+ cars I've owned over the years, this one takes the cake.

Today however, I had an incredible experience. For the first time, I rode in an E93 with the top down. I live in Florida where it's warm year round and sunny for 3/4 of the year -- my justification for looking at E93's in the first place. Albeit, this particular E93 had an Akropovic exhaust, and various other upgrades. But to hear the trumpets singing their siren song to 8400 RPM, with the wind in my hair, and the sun shining down, was an experience that for the first time, made me question my decision to go E92.

Sure the E93 is slower, heavier and has more body roll. But I rarely track my E92. It's a daily for me. And while my car does feel faster, the E93 was plenty fast, and gave me a completely different driving experience.

I suppose my point here is to simply question why I hear so much hate for the E93? It's the same phenomenal sports car we all love, but captures a whole different experience of driving. I was thoroughly impressed.

It is perplexing for people to call the E93 a fat pig yet everyone seems to love C63s/RS5s which weigh the same.

I love E93s, they bring something really special into the equation. Judging by the amount of hard parkers everywhere I do not think the extra pounds should be a huge detriment.

Oftentimes I entertain getting an E93 so I have the three body styles.

The trifecta of M3's would be second to none! My parents did this just with the wrong cars. They love their Benz's for some odd reason... They have an E class sedan for dad, E class convertible for mom, and E class wagon for trips. Its terrible (considering none are AMG).

Spring, summer and fall in an e93 is great. Add a SC and their beautiful. If you track the car I can understand a e92 over the e93 (as well as other's opinions who just like the style of e92's better) but with the top down on a warm summer night e93's are a joy unto themselves.

Style wise, the E92 > E93 with the top up, but top down, that E93 looks damn good.

I think E92s look better but I can understand the appeal of a drop top.
I think the amount of hate the E93 gets is quite funny, given how many of us just drive on the street, not to mention how many people "stance" out their E92s or do other things to ruin performance in the quest for form over function.
Few of us are actually competing, so get whatever is fun for you.

The e93 is great the folding hard top scares me a bit though.

E93 in Florida would be great. I definitely think they look alot better than other convertibles that have soft tops.

Whenever a post regarding an e93 comes up on this forum, a bunch of NASCAR owners with carbon lips, intakes and rear diffusers who have never seen a track come out to educate the public.

I got to drive BOOF-M3 's E93 all over the Dragon's Tail this past fall with his nutso exhaust and top down. Mix in his DCT tune and I was giggling the whole ride. ABSOLUTE hoot with the top down.

So.... having owned both an E92 and an E93 I think I can speak on this... My 2011 E93 with Alpine DCT and ECU tunes is faster in every way than any model manual M3. Forget the extra 350lbs, it makes no matter when it comes to light to light racing and country roads when you add the tunes and DCT. Looks are subjective and I can't argue that an E90/92 is a better looking vehicle. But that E93 can do everything the other two cars can do and do it with the top down. As far as sound goes you can't beat an aftermarket exhaust with the top down. Amazing that a car that cost $7k more than a non convertible is worth way less today.

I had my E93 for over 80,000 miles and absolutely loved it - wish I could've kept it AND still have my F80 (could not financially justify having both). Oh well - the great memories live on!

I also agree that despite the weight (4140 lbs) it felt much lighter than that from a performance standpoint!!

Not sure I can agree with this sentiment. I've been on this board for a few years now and read posts daily and can say I have not seen this. Can you link a specific post where someone said they "Hated" the E93? I can see how someone would have a preference for carbon roof over a sunroof, or a DCT over manual, or a hard top over a vert. But "Hate"?

I personally test drove a E93 to see if I liked the feel of the E9X M3.

I just will never do a convertible performance car, unless it was like a McLaren or alternate supercar where all it effects is a little weight and no feeling to the car.

Performance notwithstanding, seems to me that the looks of the E93 with the top down have something to do with the looks of the person driving it...

If you live in a place where you can use it often, or even year round (such as San Diego, with the rare exception of these last few days), an E93 M3 is an absolute blast. I love having a convertible with some power behind it... so much fun.

I've had my E93 for over two years and absolutely love it. I always get people commenting about how much they love the car. It's absolutely fantastic to drive down here in Florida with the wife on a pleasant day. With a full Akrapovic Evo exhaust it sounds epic when I start to wind it up in the RPM band. One of the best decisions I have ever made was to buy it.

I'm sure having an E93 would be fantastic living somewhere like Florida where you can enjoy the top down all-year round. But I have to say - even up here in Chicago I daily-drove my E93 M3 through three Chicago winters (just kept the top up between early November and late March/early April) - and even then - loved having the car!

I moved on from it to the F80 because: a) my kids were getting to big to comfortably fit into the back seat; b) 4 doors and the much larger back seat of the F80 was much better for my kids, carpooling (plus F80 seats 5, vs. the E93 seating 4); c) F80 better for occasional track use vs. the E93 (at least in my opinion); d) E93 had over 80,000 miles; and e) couldn't justify passing up the trade-in value of E93 to significantly reduce the out-the-door price of my F80.

Like I said though - wish I could've kept it along with newer M's...

I took my two boys (both under 4) to day care with the top down in Texas at 70 degrees this morning. Both of them loved it. Some days I wish I would have purchased an E90, but it's days like to today that make the E93 worth it 100% for me.
