I had this problem with my 08 E93 M3. Only occurred during *spirited* 1-2 shifting. I had put a short shifter on to get rid of the rubbery stick, which may have contributed. The sensation was like sticking my hand in a coffee grinder - very pleasant and many times embarrassing. I took it to the dealer twice and, contrary to usual experience, was able to reproduce it. They speculated it was a synchro issue and planned to order and install an entirely new tranny. (un)fortunately my car was totaled and I never had to deal with it. It was something that really annoyed me - and I'm now very happy with my DCT.

Ferrari is different

This is the exact opposite problem that Sammy Hagar had. He couldn't get his car OUT of second gear. He couldn't drive 55.

Agree w/ another poster that some extra time & smoothness helps on 1 -> 2. Also, now mine's been worked in the 'graunchiness' of the change into 2nd has mellowed w/ use. First few thou' k miles I did not enjoy its resistance.

I still have the occasionally uneven shift when not thinking and just trying to bang it in: bit like virginal sex!

All three of my M have been manual. Never had a problem on a combine 230,000 miles. Please don't attack the manual because you have difficulty w it.
