I will say that the discs in the Road Kits are indeed stout and will take a serious beating at the track. I can't imagine anyone ever fading them.

If you didn't track an E9x with that setup I don't see why you'd ever have to change rotors ever again.

My 355x35 Stoptech fronts are still more than 1mm above service limit 70,000 miles into their lives, and they've been tracked a few times

If your OEM brakes are getting squishy it’s the fluid or your pads smearing, and the pads included in the BBK will smear as well. OEM brakes more than outbrake average tires on an average pad compound.

Like 3/4 of these can be addressed by getting Castro’s SRF fluid and a better pad, except the stock rotors don’t have enough heat capacity for anything more than a 20 min session.

I say just go for aesthetics but I would recommend Stoptech over Brembo because the pad window is seriously useful. Spend another $220-300 to get a track pad compound and you can swap it out in 3 mins flat.

Do you own a set of rims with R-compounds?
where did you buy from?

For street, autoX, and sometimes even light track duty depending on the car and situation, the vast majority of our customers run Ferodo DS2500. One of the best things about the DS2500 is that it can be run on the same disc as their higher temp racing pads such as the DS1.11 and DS3.12. All of those compounds are made from the same core materials, so you don't have to re-bed every time you swap pads. They play nice on the disc face together, and you don't get vibrations and judder. You can think of the DS2500, DS1.11, and DS3.12 as a road and track pad system, good for use in all conditions.

I've been using the 2500's on my car up front for about a year now. They are not the *perfect* street pad (the OEM pads are *perfect* street pads IMO) because they don't like being under about 40f (you can literally feel them wake up mid-stop at the first stop sign/light after leaving on a cold day) and they aren't whisper-quiet. The OEM pads are great from that perspective, as a pure street pad. But if you're tracking at all, bleh

Anyhow, beacuse I can't get the OEM pads in an STR40 pad shape, I chose to replace the "ehhhhh this is fine I guess" Stoptech Sports with the Ferodos. If I was using the big AP kits I would have even less compunction abuot using the 2500 as a dual-duty pad. Wtih my ST40/355mm front kit they aren't quite up to the task of tracking - I was still able to fade them a bit,on not particularly sticky summer tires, but they came back quickly, unlike the Stoptech Sports which didn't just leave to take a break and come back, they left and got on a plane and flew to Fiji once they got too hot during a session

If you were using one of the big ap kits you would have lost your mind by now
It is almost unbelievable how much clanking my ap radical has.

Street bbk \= track bbk, although street bbks can be used on the track and track bbks can be used on the street

So how noisy are the DS2500's on factory calipers? I'm thinking of doing DS2500's in the front and OEM pads in the rear ( I don't want extra noise and the rear doesn't heat up that much).

I have the same rear 9449 caliper as you and mine makes absolutely no abnormal noises of any kind. The front 9668 caliper performs the same (except the pad will shift up-down when going forward-reverse but it’s just one “clunk”).

Hopefully I'll be using the same pad as you soon. I do find they clang back and forth pretty loudly, not just the up/down movement you speak of

I run DS2500's on stock rotors and they're silent.

Have had a great experience with the DS2500. No issues. Had a tiny squeal in the beginning but after I bed them in, they have been silent. I'd recommend!

Also I'd recommend running the compound all around. To me it's no different than tires and you wouldnt run all seasons out back at summers up front.

Which pads are you using? I’ve had PFC, Carbotech and Ferodo pads in the 9668 and 9449 calipers and they’ve all performed the same - quiet. The forward-revers “clunk” happens only once due to the pad shifting up-down to contact the pad guide when you go from forward to reverse or vice versa. It won’t “clunk” again until you change driving direction.

The forward/reverse is typical of bbks, the pfcs do the same thing. The sound I don't like is pad rattle.
I am not running the rattle clips as they're not supposed to be there for tracking. I don't swap pads and don't want to swap rattle clips either.
Last season i did run the rattle clips and had a ton of pad taper, hopefully it was the rattle clip's fault

The pads are 01. Using the pad shapes you recommended i was able to find a pad in 11 compound that i'll have to chop up to fit. That's nice as the 11 compound doesn't squeal much on the street, the 01s are so loud

The Essex anti-rattle spring clips are made of Alum blocks with steel spring straps. They’ll handle track temps without an issue and they won’t prevent the pad from sliding freely.

I ran a 9668 set up without the anti rattle clips for about 11 seconds and realized that was a no go. They are a must on the street, eliminates all noise (except the forward/reverse clunk, obviously) and I've kept them in on track with zero issues. I measured pad thickness before and after to make sure they didn't put any weird taper into the pads and there were zero issues at all. I'll never run without them again.

SYT_shadow has been spoiled by his PFC Z54/Z45 brake kits which are noise free and do not require anti-rattle clips. We all know he’s just too lazy to swap clips if he doesn’t want to run them on track...It’s not like he does his own s65 bearing jobs, etc.

Yes, I have certainly been spoiled when it comes to brakes

I don't even change pads... I literally run pfc11 on the street.
I have to do lots of things when I get to the track and strongly try to minimize them. Every activity is a chance to screw up. The previous night I drove 4-10h after working a full day at the office, then the 1st day at the track I'm waking up at 5:15 to be set up on time, then i have to change camber, swap wheels, meet my student, empty the cars from all the stuff I've brought to the track, set up the tents, etc etc. And we take two cars every time, so all this x2.

The pads I've consumed so far in the AP kit have had lots of taper wear which I'm not used to. I assumed it was because I left the antirattle clips on and they messed something up.

I'm fine with the AP levels of noise, I was making the comment earlier that a real race kit like PFC or AP RadiCal should not be used for aesthetics, for that there are other kits that have more of a street orientation.

Just having a little fun

However, I do agree the higher-end track setups are not the best option for street-only use.
