Dumb phone question

Hey folks,

Dumb question because I couldn't really find any info in the owner's manual. My steering wheel and radio both have a little phone icon. As far as I know, there's no phone and no bluetooth (didn't get the BMW assist). I push the button and it beeps but doesn't seem to do anything else. If I push the voice recognition button (also on the wheel), it tells me I can say any number of commands, all phone related. Is there some standard phone integration or am I just mucking around with a couple buttons and things BMW was too lazy to take out of a low option car? Seems like they wouldn't even bother putting the recording of the guy telling me I can say "dial name" if the option wasn't in the car.

Thanks for the info!

Not to sound condecending, but are you sure you don't have Bluetooth? Do you have a shark fin?

Hehe...I have the shark fin, but surely the bt doesn't use that? Bluetooth is not on my window sticker, and I haven't found a menu (no iDrive) that will let me pair my phone. I'd love to be proven wrong though . I do have the ipod integration, but as far as I know, I don't have BMW assist.

I have BT/Assist on this car but I do remember on the E46 M3 I had there was no fin because I had no BMW Assist on that car.... Dunno, maybe someone else will chime in.

All E90/E92 M3 have the shark fin regardless of whether or not they have BT/Assist.

Sounds like you have BT to me. Same set-up as I have. You need to pair the phone with the car tho.

Any idea how to do it without iDrive? I can't find squat about it in the manual. Thanks for any help...

Press the right side knob on the radio, then you will be able to select phone, then select pair new phone. Make sure your cell phone search for new device, then enter any password and pair.
