is the alarm accessory in M3 worth it.....

...i know BMW Assist acts as Lo Jack but thinking of putting the chirping alarm that can be added at dealer.....i guess if someone breaks open door it will go off ....any feedback appreciated included any issues with the dealer installation .....

I'm leaning against it. If my car gets broken into, there isn't going to be much in it worth stealing. If they get the whole car, BMW assist will help. For the cost of the alarm and install, I can go through my comprehensive deductible almost 3 times. I doubt the siren will do much except go off on the ferry, and when loud exhausts go by.

In case your car will be built in March or later you don't need to decide this. The retrofit alarm option will be discontinued then.

Best regards, south

You get flashy lights and a chirp when engaged, and then the flashy light in the car. Not worth it really. I looked into it, but it seemed rather pointless.

I think you can get a better insurance rates if you have that option.

Not tryin to be a jerk here, but,
Do we really need to start another alarm thread with this one just 6 threads down?

Exactly.

The OE alarm has no motion/shock sensor. It has a tilt sensor and an ultrasonic sensor for the interior.

Cool, so exhausts won't set it off. Thanks for the correction. I'll still probably use the money on HID's and tint instead, although the "other thread" referenced above does have some more info that might convince me to spring for it anyway.

Sure thing, we're here to help each other
I think the OE alarm is an awesome add on (if you can call it that). It will never false (except maybe in a huge earthquake!!) and will always go off if the interior of your car is breached. But most importantly, it's a deterrent.
