You guys are lucky if they're all running with radar on. I'm more than happy to live with dozens of false alarms if I'm assured that I'll know if a cruiser is in the vicinity

We're just going to have to find scrapped F117 stealth fighters and start putting those panels on our cars.

With a lot of states now using lidar/laser radar detectors arent really helpful, unless you live in an area that uses it exclusively.

laser jammers and waze FTW

A lot of new cars are using a k band signal I assume for parking sensors. Chryslers seem to be the most common. It's becoming so annoying I am about ready to stop using them. I was wondering if there are any updates expected or if any of you have found a work around to avoid this nuisance? I have the ability to block any signal by location but that does no good since the vehicles are traveling the same direction as I am. They also seem to pulse which is even more annoying.

Thanks for any advice.
My understanding is they update the firmware occasionally to filter out these bands.

It's been awhile since I've updated mine but it does seem better every time I update it.

Who has experience with Veil?

Back in the late 1970s, Car and Driver magazine tested all radar detectors at the time, and they also tested various vehicles for detectability. The 911 was the best at staying stealth, so they then installed radar frequency absorbing mats on the front of it and retested. Now I think it could get to less than 1/10th of a mile from the radar gun and not be seen.

The problem isn't necessarily trying to be stealth but instead being mistaken for other traffic. This is true today like it was 40 years ago. A tractor trailer 1/4 mile behind you can throw off a larger return signal than your car, but since you're the one that is seen, you get the ticket (which in some cases may actually be a good thing, lol). C&D tested this problem also showing how cars with smaller return signatures are effectively hidden by large cars or trucks well behind them.

As a side note to that 1979 article, in the mid-70s the Fuzzbuster II was the best detector for a couple of years in terms of detection distance. A new company was just on the scene: Cincinnati Microwave with their Escort detector. It was the first superheterodyne radar detector, and it was fantastic compared to the other now archaic competition. Well, C&D received a "new" remote mount Fuzzbuster II for their test that performed just as well as this new Escort unit. They decided to drill out the rivets and open the unit up only to find.....the entire guts of an Escort residing within. Who says companies don't cheat magazines?

Passport 9500 in my ferrari and V1 in the 335i. You guys need to go into the coding and turn off X and K bands to reduce false alarms. those are useless these days. Cops only run Ka or Laser.

its more than paid for itself for me. my 1 ticket in the last 3 years was due to an airplane pacing the highway. I generally do 10-20 over the limit

The V1 software update that removes K band false alerts works. I know because one of my V1s has it and the other does not, the difference is dramatic.

Currently I have both V1's set to only detect Ka band. Ka band is guaranteed to be a cop running radar in the Northeast.

Every time I do a long trip I am saved by this thing at least once. Sometimes as much as 3x per trip.

You see some LEOs at the side of the road that are not running anything because they are visually waiting for some jackass to come around. They probably alternate between running something and not.

I have Laser Interceptors and it's extremely rare to get hit with Laser. Almost every time it's radar.

This is very true. If you are a single vehicle on the road or even around a few other cars, LEOs will have their radar/laser unit on pause. Then activate it at the last second for a speed measurement thus countering anyone with Radar detection devices. Nothing you can do if you donít see the cop car and your device only goes off for a split second.

Plus it doesnít help if you get stopped and the LEO sees your radar detector, then he or she knows you are intending to speed. Which usually means full price ticket.

I have an old Escort 8500 sitting around and all this talk makes me want to leave it in the box.
Mostly just use Waze now though I've heard the new updates on the V1 are pretty nice for blocking out the false positives.

I've the V1 and it doesn't protect you from
a trooper in ambush with a laser
a lying trooper who hits you with a K-pop
an undercover who pops you from behind on demand

I've been nailed each of the ways above
happy driving

Another vote for Waze here. It's all I use now. The app is free, it's on my phone (which is always with me in whatever car I'm in), and although it can provide some outdated alerts, many are legit and in real time. To make things even better, Apple CarPlay will allow the integration of Waze with the fall release of iOS 12

A lot of cops in canada are using spectre rdds (radar detector detector) not sure about the states but i know that uniden and escort make stealth detectors.

I usually rely on waze but lately i've been thinking about getting a radar detector for the e92.

Gonna have to do some research on this topic.

This is my 2c's

UK (before leaving in 2010) SD's are legal to own and use, though they mainly detected supermarket auto doors, and front facing speed cameras, but usually way to late if your really hammering it, but in my area I knew where they where.

It had a laser detector in it, I never got any alarms for that.

LD works best in a pack, because a laser is NOT one thin beam of light, it is conical and can bounce and split, so if you pick it up in a pack, then your lucky (because) of that, however on your own and you've been had

Jammers illegal, ticket and a conviction

Canadialand SD's are illegal, and you'll get a ticket, conviction and a big fat fine, oh and device confiscated, AND yes they can tell if your using a RD/SD

Epilogue:
The SD/RD never saved my ass in the UK, and in Canada, I got a speeding ticket, about 6 years ago,

Moral of the story:
Dont speed, don't drive like a dick, you'll safe and so will me and mine
