Probably no indication this was coming. It’s a reverse lottery — the winners lose.

The word *German* is missing in your statement.
Actually it's a shame what is going on ...

Lots more — it’s an engine out job. I’d guess double to triple the labor but I have not done it yet so I am guessing.

Yessss, that ?....I wonder if this is from a botched rod-bearing job, or the bolts are rounded-over from rotating within loose metal pieces.

I have a legit (i think)question while i have a few of the respected members present,i have a 13 with 71 k miles i’m planning in a month or so to get the rb’s done at a very reputable shop in my state so is it worth having them pull one of the main bearing caps while the pan is off?

I mean just to gauge pulling all the caps or am I wasting my time?

In a fraction of a sec. debris from the rod chewed on the bolts .
I'm pretty sure , the owner heard a loud *f*ugly noise before his S65 locked completely up...

GM
Looks like a rod failure based on the chunk of rod and piston pieces. As to the rod bolts and caps, smashing against busted rod chunks would beat the hell out of them, especially if the rod broke at a very high rpm. 2 main caps removed, but one still has the bearing on it, so hard to know the journal condition. Regardless, it is ugly and painful to look at!

Need more details. What happened? Driving casually? At the track? What type of sound did you hear? Original bearings or BE?

There is no way to remove main bearing caps in the S65 as it is a bed-plate type engine. In order to see the mains, you would have to split the engine. This is an engine out job (unless you are crazy, cough deansbimmer, cough).

Mains seem to be much less of a problem on the S65 than the rods. I certainly hope so...

Cheers,

I don't think this was the OP's, just a picture a local mechanic posted somewhere. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first or last time.
