Front Tires Help!!

Hey guys, I have a 2012 Competition pack and I need new front tires. I’m running 255/35/19 up front and 295/30/19 rear both on Pilot Sport 4s. I want to bump up the fronts to 275 but I’d have to drop to a 30 sidewall instead of 35 but I’ve had people tell me that’s a bad idea. Idk too much about sidewalls so could someone explain to me why it’s a bad idea or why it would be ok. Also I’m doing a track day soon if that helps with context at all. Also if it’s a bad idea, would 265 be the most I could go while keeping a 35 sidewall?

Well the front rim is 9” wide and stock is a 245 tire. You are adding more than an inch to the tire width with a 275. Just doesn’t seem like a great idea from a wheel/tire width perspective. Ignoring the sidewall question altogether.

I'm running 275/30/19's on my competition wheels without any problems.

I understand you can run a 275 just fine with a 30 sidewall but I've heard dropping down to a 30 sidewall upfront isn't good for track performance. Any advice regarding that?

19's aren't ideal for track performance anyways. the thinner the tire, the more precise you have to be with hot tire pressures. if you don't know what you're doing, you'll spend the whole day chasing tire pressures or not knowing why they car doesn't feel right (if you're clueless).

the middle number of a tire size is the aspect ratio of width to sidewall height. the overall diameter difference between a 255/35 and a 275/30 is about .4". in the context of radius, it's even less of a difference.
so, is a wider tire more beneficial than a tire with more sidewall? might be debatable.

my 275/30/19's fill out my front competition wheels great, but i'm not tracking on them, so it is difficult to give advice with that application in mind. i think i would value more tire over more sidewall though.

You should be fine with the 275/30/19. It'll be stiffer and better response when turning in. Probably won't notice it.
