Track Day Cancellations

Anyone else have a track day cancellation from this damned Covid-19?! VIR w/TrackDaze next week was officially postponed this afternoon. VIR made the call. Can't think of a safer group event than being outside in a car by myself. Really bummed.

Sadly, I think you're correct.

I have been trying to cancel my attendance at NASA March event at VIR for last week or so.

I was at an autocross yesterday, our usual BMW club has a 65-entry cap which was full last week well before registration ended on Friday. Ultimately, only 45 people ended up showing up and registering times yesterday. Rain might have been a small factor in that though, weather yesterday sucked. If I wasn't an addict I would have maybe not gone just 'cause of the rain haha

Our local SCCA region just today cancelled all of their events until the second week of April. That puts an autocross out for next weekend, and a time trial I was planning on going to on April 18th in jeopardy. I was also planning on flying to a national event in Vegas on March 27th, and it's been cancelled as of Friday, so I got account credits for my flight and accommodations.

Eagles Canyon Raceway seems to be having members days and an open track day this weekend as far as I know. That could change...

PCA is also having a DE there at ECR at the end of the month. As far as I know my instructor friends with them are saying that they will only be allowed to do lead-follow with students, no in-car instruction...Safety wise this worries me a bit for the most-novice students.

A friend of mine is hosting an HPDE with his private group in early April and is saying it will be business as usual since his group doesn't usually have huge attendance on purpose.

Most other HPDE Groups around here are still on as far as I'm aware for the next few weeks but recommending no helmet/equipment sharing, no comm-sharing, and closed-face helmets if at all possible.

Several of my friends were at COTA over the weekend and said they had no drivers meetings and just generally didn't much socialize with others in paddock. Guessing it will be a group-by-group decision for everyones upcoming events.

COTA is still open for HPDEs. Edge Addicts and Chin plan to continue on with their events unless the city steps in.

Glad I did Track night in america last week, and attending a last minute autocross since cancelling my trip to cali, looks like they might all be postponed in the area now.

Just got this from Summit

Quote:
SUMMIT POINT MOTORSPORTS PARK
TO POSTPONE EVENTS THROUGH APRIL 1, 2020

SUMMIT POINT, WV – In an effort to be proactive in fighting COVID-19, Xator Corporation and Summit Point Motorsports Park are postponing all motorsports activities from March 17th through April 1st when the situation will be reassessed.

Recently released guidelines from the President of the United States and the Governor of West Virginia recommend avoiding all social gatherings of more than 10 people to help stop the potential spread of the virus. Summit Point Motorsports Park is heeding the recommendations for the safety of our loyal fans and participants.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. More information will be forthcoming as it arises. Governor Jim Justice is urging “all West Virginians to stay calm, be smart and use great hygiene.”

The PCA event I mentioned above just ended up postponing today now, probably for the best with the way they were planning on doing instructing initially. So far, still no word on members day's and an open track day at Eagle's Canyon so they could still be going on...

2012 BMW M3 Coupe  [0.00]
HOD cancelled their day at The Ridge next Friday. Audi club did the same for their instructor clinic Saturday and general HPDE on Sunday.

So, yeah. I guess that saves me getting the car ready and doing the drive/hotel thing. But still.... booo.

I haven’t been on track since October, so I’m gonna do an MSRH member day on the 29th. I imagine it’ll be pretty empty.

Eagles Canyon Open Track Day is still on for Saturday so I'm going, might be the last chance for awhile... Who knows!
They're limiting Green and Blue to 10 students each on the 2.7mi config. Instructors to do lead-follow only.

Seems smart and reasonable.

Yeah it's not just about group activities. It's about limiting dangerous activities with higher risk of accidents which could lead to hospital visits. They're not going to have room for you in the hospitals coming up here shortly. The government will ban bicycle riding in California coming up here soon for the same reason. They're converting a lot of operating theaters in California to bed space in preparation. All elected surgeries have been postponed. Now is definitely not a good time to hurt yourself so be careful out there..

for sure

any kind of accident in the next month or two will be life threatening. Don't expect to show up at the hospital and be treated

I fear that track day cancellations are the least of our worries, even though I was really looking forward to them!!

I have a track day scheduled for end of May for motorcycle and I'm assuming it will be canceled. As well as I'll be missing the best riding months of the year coming up because I'm not gonna ride for safety, the bike fleet is grounded

Maybe we need to do what the F1 lads are doing and all pickup some sim equipment to race each other online? I can't afford what their using but a set of pedals and a wheel for the Xbox sounds fun!

Knowing my luck, I will trip and fall during my runs and require surgery. That’s what I get for trying to be healthy, I guess. :/

Lol... yeah running is dangerous for your health, stay home, stream some car content and crack a cold one. Do virtual happy hour with your friends and family via FaceTime.
