Any input on which tires suit the car? Does either the Rival-S (245/275-18) or Re-71 (265/285-18) complement the stock set-up more than the other? Thinking the 'stones offer both width & reduced OD vs the Rivals tolerance for slip angle..
I have run 265 square, 275 square and 265F/275R, all with the RE71R's and all work. IMO -- when the new 285/30-18's roll out, the best setup may be 275/35-18F and 285/30-30 rear. The Stones work better as they have stiffer sidewalls which tolerate lack of camber in Street allowance.

Wheels

Anyone have recommendations for aftermarket wheels within the rules for a non-ZCP? I'd like to do a second set with Rival's or RE71's this year.

Thanks

In 18", Apex has the EC-7 in 9.5" ET22 and an EC-7 in 8.5" ET35. You'll probably want to run a 12mm spacer to obtain a net ET of 23mm on the fronts to get strut clearance for 275s (stock offset is 29mm, so rule limit is 22mm).

Apex is the lightest, cheapest answer and just recently had an 18" GB.

I also tried 265 square, 275 square, and 265/275, all with RE-71R.

For me the car handled best on the 265 square setup combined with the softest front Dinan bar setting. The 275 square setup needed more front bar, and still wasn't as good (too twitchy for me).

It sounds weird saying the narrower tire was better, but if I were ever to run one again I wouldn't hesitate to go with the 265's all around, at least with RE-71R's.

It's only F-street for a stock class (i.e. F-street allowed minor mods, basically just one sway bar and shocks are free) car.

But for the bolded items, you could be in FS legally. I am often asked to tech cars at events. I'm not the class police but often find many guys who basically mutter they are "stock" and have many of these non-permitted bolt on mods. About 50% of the time I'll mention they have the wrong classing on their car but am not motivated enough to press the issue.

I'm sure if they didn't suck there would be enough commotion to disqualify them though.

Interesting. Lying about mods is kinda dumb.

The ZHP rack completely changed my class. I posted in one of the FB groups asking what class I'm in, and someone said I'm CS, overlooking the rack in my mod list. Another guy pointed out that my ZHP rack puts me straight into SM.

Not complaining though. My main reason for doing autocross isn't really to try to be first place, yet. Some competition is good, but I'm mainly there to become a better driver.

What I mean, is if they placed first over legitimate competitors, there'd be more scrutiny to DQ them.

Hey, I've stood around in impound for 30-40 minutes at Nat'l events (15+ events) where competitors have free reign to inspect or examine all aspects of your car. It's that first time this is real. You never want to get caught with your pants down. I've replaced many wheel liners or engine splash guards which had no impact on performance just to be in compliance. Once you have become strict about compliance, you tend to be able to glance at a car on a moments notice and tell whether it is Street legal or not.

I don't care at local events, but at a national event I usually give people in impound a pass and just say hey, that's not legal, may want to fix that before Nationals. This is for something like an illegal exhaust, illegal strut brace, slightly wrongly sized wheels (although this is getting pretty far outside of street, depending on what it actually is), something of that nature (all of which happened last year in F-Street at national events, and were generally benign in nature). If the car has many mods that clearly shouldn't be allowed I think everyone would be pretty vocal about it, regardless of finishing position.

The mods in the quoted sig would be enough for a 'WTF are you doing running in street' conversation, as that's basically a full on STU build.

I've honestly never said anything to a competitor at a Nat'l event until last year at Nat's. Corsaro was running his car in grid with the fence around it and mentioned to him I didn't think that was a good idea right before he gave me the stink eye. I've seen many cars with blatantly illegal seats (ie not 25# in ST classes -- usually those flimsy Kirkeys) but never peeped a word. I guess I wasn't looking hard enough last year. Was there anything missing in my car aside from having my sway bar set on the better setting?

Haha no, you were good.

And those Kirkey seats could be legal, if there's weight attached somewhere.

There wasn't any weights attached. Something about the dumb look when I asked how much weight ballast they had to add to make the setup weigh 25#. Universally, it's been constant. I just smiled and wished them luck as for all but two cars, they weren't in my car. I was really asking just to find out how much would be needed to reach the right threshold since I was running Recaros when I was in STR.

Hey guys,

i just picked up an E92 ZCP DCT. i have autox'd in my s2000 in STR and my evo in SM. so im not completely new to autox, just new to BMW and FS.

i was wondering if there are any good tire setups for the stock ZCP 19s and EDC shocks? or are APEX PS7/EC7s in stock widths + RE71R @ 275s really the only good option there is?

I'm pretty sure you can get RE-71Rs in the stock sizes 245/35-19 and 265/35-19

The real ticket is downsize to 18x9/18x10 with RE71R's in 275 square or 265-35/285-30. The 18's wheels are much lighter than 359's, the consumables are cheaper, and you have better clearance. I sold my 359's even they were nice looking wheels. By the way, did you do any Nat'l events in STR? If so, our paths may have crossed previously.

I have ZCP wheels with 255 front and 275 rear RE71R and it works well for me. That is one size up on both the front and the back wheels.
