Sway, Aero, Monoball Control Arm bushings are all planned for the future but now I need to get down to fast times at my local tracks. Once I get to a respectable track time / more seat time, I have been considering entering NASA TT later this year (June) |

Yes, those are Stophtech Trophy's with Endless brake pads.
The Pfadts look very trick but I would have preferred a once-piece design. My coilovers needed a little more clearance and the Pfadts offered a little bit more than the stock sway bars. The tow hook is a Phoenix Performance removable tow hook. You have to remove the front end cover to mount it. Not easiest to mount but I like the idea of being able to remove the tow hook when I am not on the track. |

Nice! What were some of the times you put down at big willow and button? My stock z06 on pss and st43 pads ran a 2:03 @ button. Pretty sure I had a 2:02 in it, but I'm not that fast of a driver...yet

While the initial feel of the M3 brakes is very good, the stopping power quickly fades under track use (5 laps). Stock pads are a let down, and the lack of cooling+3600lbs is the fast fun-killer. Aftermarket pads are a great improvement, but the car really needs brake ducts. Compare that to the Z06, with 400lbs less of car to haul around, and way more horsepower to stop, and the Z06 brakes, even on stock pads blow them away. The car has big calipers, and ducts, so it's more accepting of abuse. It took me 15 repeated stops from 80mph to 5mph to fade the stock pads. The M3 did about 8 before fading (stock pads). That said, I would not recommend stock pads for either car at the track if you've had seat time. It will quickly turn into a game of managing the brakes instead of enjoying the car. Edit: Picture of mine for fun

Since I started this thread and have gone through 2 M3s since and one Z06 and now on the ZL1, thought Id update some info. ZL1 is at the Speed Inc for a few little mods. Baselined at 509/498. Here for more info.

I do not understand how this is any comparison at all. The Z06 destroys the M3 in every performance category possible and I will be trading my M3 in for the C7 Z06 in a few years.

It isn't a comparison, they are different categories but for some the all purpose nature of the m3 especially the e90 is very appealing.

From what I have read for the last 26 pages, this has very much been a comparison thread.

yes and no i guess. most people realize these are different categories. mod for mod a z06 will stop an m3 at the track in equal hands. think the m3 is more rewarding car to drive, i.e. more forgiving and neutral, not as much of a handful.

Depends how serious of tracking you're talking. The stockers are fine, replacing the small padlets with one piece track pads, replacing the fluid with a racing fluid like Motul 660 should cover most racing scenarios. Are there better setups? Sure but the Z06 brakes are big beefy units that can take abuse.

Thanks for the reply, i was always curious as to how stock 6 pot systems compare with eachother. (AMG, Z06,M5 etc.) m5 is now 6, finally right? I know it has alot of other factors, but still i would like to know which stock brake set-ups are ready for light to moderate track use out of the box. |

except that most people get the less practical E92 coupe, and some people even have an M3 as a weekend/track car and use something else as a daily driver. i could never figure out the logic behind that.

yep i agree can't answer for anyone else. i liked the e90 better but i also had an x5 as a daily. just didn't want my m3 getting beat up parking in lots and such.

nice 800 and 750 at the wheels! seems underrated at the wheels stock as well, more like 600-620.
