MY2012 E92 M3 September ED Itinerary... opinions please

Finally placed an ED order for a MY2012 M3 Coupe last week after looking for the last 16 years for the best reason to return to Germany (Army-stationed in Bamberg from 1993-95).

2012 M3 Coupe specs are:
  • Jerez Black
  • Individual Rust Brown interior
  • Individual M Performance steering wheel (non-electronic) in bicolor Rust Brown/Black
  • Individual center console plastic (area under the armrest) color-coded Rust Brown
  • M-DCT
  • ZCP
  • ZPP2
  • ZCV
Because I want a MY2012 the earliest ED pickup would be either the week of the 19th (PW38) or the 26th (PW39) of September, according to Individual. No ED pick up dates are officially available yet until mid-July for MY2012, so the above dates are the estimation of Individual at my unofficial request.

The Boss (AKA girlfriend) and me do not have too many vacation days to travel so our itinerary will be a very short 6-days (including 2 travel days) trip, from a Tuesday to a Sunday. The whole plan is to see and drive enough to enjoy these days without excessive costs and mostly within Germany. This is the proposed route, the "circle":

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...79&z=8&layer=t

Regardless of the final week to be determined, this is it:
  • Day 1: FLL to Munich
  • Day 2: arriving between 8-10am depending on flight, M Individual facility tour, pick up car (no factory tour) before 12, travel to Bormio thru the Stelvio Pass. Stay one night
  • Day 3: leave Bormio early morning, travel to Fussen, see castles, drive to Rothenburg, stay the night
  • Day 4: leave Rothenburg early morning, stop by Bamberg for the Army memories, arrive in Munich, turn the car in, stay the night
  • Day 5: See the Deutches Museum, possibly Dachau Concentration Camp, chill out in downtown Munich, stay the night.
  • Day 6: Fly back early morning
No specific hotels have been chosen yet, but I'm not looking for anything above $200 a night (hopefully). So far I have found some nice WiFi-equipped hotels within the budget along the way that at least look nice in their websites.

Any recommendations, tips, itinerary critiques very welcome...

Congratualations on the order!
Rust Brown is quite the stunning interior color imo.
Just be careful in Italy...especially where you park overnight

Any reason why you are starting and ending your trip in Munich? There is no Lufthansa BMW ED requirement that you need to fly out of Munich. Why not spend time in Munich right after (or before) picking up the car, then head south to Italy. After Italy head back north to Rothenburg and Fussen. This will allow you to finish your trip flying out of Frankfurt. The drop off location is very close to the airport. About a 10 min drive and they will call a taxi for you. More importantly, Frankfurt is closer to Nurburgring. Doing laps around Nurburgring in the M3 is something you will never forget.

Drop off in Munich is literally at the airport: you can drop your car and walk into the terminal. Plus, it might be easier to get a better price on the ticket when travelling from the same airport. I'm going in July to pick mine up and dropping off in Munich. I booked Kempinski hotel at the airport (stayed there before). Very reasonable price if you book early.

This trip is mostly for my girlfriend enjoyment... she's never been in Europe, I lived there before. And with more than 700 miles planned to be driven I think that it will be more than enough driving to be done, especially with the Stelvio Pass in my route. The Nurburgring does not interest me at all with my new car, much less with so few days to spend.

Munich is the center of this trip, too much to see around and in it and it very convenient for the amount of days that we will spend. Just in and out... maybe for the next ED we will do something different but not at this one.

Congratulations on your new E92!
Did you place your order through VISTA or BRAMAN?

Thanks but... are you insane?

This car in either of those two South Florida dealers would have been a "can't do" Individual or a $100,000 order.

This is another David Aviles/Northwest BMW M production, with vast knowledge of Individual and no haggle, painless ordering process.

Congratulations! I pick up my E90 on 9/20. Maybe we'll see you there.

For itinerary suggestions, have you tried the ED forum on Bimmerfest?

Thanks... I have a thread at Bimmerfest also. I got at least one hotel tip for Rothenburg.

The first pick up date that I really would like is on 09/21 (Wednesday), second option in on 09/28.

Thanks... the updated specs for the MY2012 M3 should be announced by mid-July. Personally, I do not expect any significant changes other than probably a minor price increase.

Congrats
Hope to be joining you soon as a 2012 owner
Just waiting for more info on the 2012s
Leaning towards getting idrive and enhanced premium sound this time
Took too long and too much effort to upgrade my HIFI
Sounds great, but took apart too many parts of the car to install the whole system
EPS is not bad for how little effort it requires
Might just add a trunk sub

Nice... no more pussywalking.

The 2012 Ordering guide should be out very soon. I don't even know the new pricing yet as this was really sudden.

I would reconsider the Enhanced Premium Sound/IA if I were you, it is simply not that great for $1900. I got a full set of of IA speakers/crossovers (minus the useless woofers) for $200 from a junkyard and will install those with a pair of SSMB8 and the new VP Electricity E92 12" sub enclosure. Those and the MS-8 and the PDX amps from my old M3 will replace the HiFi in the new M3.
