Had my rod bearings done at Tuning Dynamics Tampa

Best shop I've found in Tampa. My bearings were on borrowed time. Some were on its last legs. Clicking noise wasn't noticable.

2011.1 e92 m3. Done at 68k miles.

All bearings

Andrew and Paul took really good care of my car.

Other than exhaust, filter, and x pipe; it was pretty stock. Always warmed it up before driving. Used liqui moli for oil. Its a daily driver.

And car has always been a florida car?? If that's the case, warm up is not such a big deal in florida, is it?

Did you go with BE bearings and ARP bolts or something else?

Damn OP, your car is similar to mine. Mine is 2011.5 e92 m3 approaching 57k miles. I always do proper warm up and run LM 10w60. Ive done initial BS oil report at 53k miles and it was fine but that baseline report doesn't mean anything until you do a second one and get a trend.

Also curious if you went with BE bearings and bolts, that's what I ordered.

Just want to bump this thread and provide another positive review for Tuning Dynamics. Even though my bearings only had around 30k on them, it's all about peace of mind. I've only had my car a little over a year, and I don't know how the previous owner drove the vehicle (i.e. redlining while cold!). Mine did show some wear but were otherwise in better shape than most I've seen on the forums.

TD was running a special military discount for March, so I couldn't pass that up. The owner Andrew is very knowledgeable and offered up tons of great information about the M3 and BMW's in general. His tech Paul was also willing to talk at length about my E90 and even showed me some technical things that will make my DIY work much easier. I'll only be DIY'ing stuff because, unfortunately, I'm up by Valdosta. These guys are over 3 hours away from me or they'd definitely get more work from me.

There's a reason you take a job like this to guys who know what they're doing. They've done this delicate job over two dozen times and it is evident. Oh and btw Paul who did my car is a highly skilled dude who's a BMW trained tech. They don't put that out there enough, but that should be known. I could go on about these guys, but I don't need to since you should just go check out the shop and talk to them.

I also opted for WPC bearings and ARP bolts.

They also installed a few other goodies. Once I'm not so busy I'll post up a thread with pics.

I'll be losing a garage if I move down that way, so it is good to hear about a shop that can be trusted.

I've been having the oil analysis done, but from what I learned on the forums is if you have the new bearings they do not have the same copper/lead content of older MY bearings. That means oil analysis will not show the same spike of usual materials indicating failure. I could not find any updated information about what to look for. My particular car actually had an engine already replaced at 35k under warranty by a previous owner so I wasn't taking any chances. I auto-x and drive my car enthusiastically and just wanted the peace of mind. I can't find the super long and informative bearing thread, but it's out there. If you need me to find it let me know and I'll search more.

I'm in St Pete, I just bought a 2010 with 75k miles and no service records, so I'll be contacting Tuning Dynamics soon. Central FL BMW Facebook Group recommended them, I've been asking around and Tuning Dynamics seems to keep coming up.

Naturally, I'm nervous to let just anyone open up that engine, I can't find anything negative about them, and based on what I've read they seem like they really know their stuff and run a solid operation.

They're a little north of us, looks like about 45 mins from me (I'm in the downtown St Pete area)

Tuning Dynamics is a great shop. Andrew and his team have been doing all of the work on all my cars for 10 years, including rod bearings and a supercharger install on my current M3. They are very knowledgeable on all things M, and they are very competitively priced. I highly recommend them - they are a bit of a drive, but the service is worth it.

As many here will tell you, oil analysis is far from foolproof. There are too many variables, unless you've been doing an oil analysis before every oil change for years. Also, it's much harder to get any sort of reading off 2010-2013 cars because they changed the bearings (didn't use copper i believe, which has been the biggest red flag of bearing wear on 2008-2009z).

I ordered an oil analysis kit. It's in my trunk. Haven't done it. Doing rod bearings anyway. Will do an oil analysis before every oil change afterwards.

There are a ton of threads around here that will not yield you any sort of answer. Ultimately, you need to determine if the risk of not changing them is right for you, regardless of any type of oil analysis.

I had mine changed for piece of mind at 30k miles - And I had a supercharger installed at the same time

It’s honestly such a crapshoot I think it’s worth the 2k, even on newer low mileage cars as it happens to all of them selectively.
