M3 vs B8 S4
I knew the S4 had good pull but my M3 hasnt been stock in a long time... I didnt realize a simple tune and cat back exhaust would pull away from the M3...
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433961 As far as Handling... I can not even come close to comparing the feel of my M3 to the S4 although it is quite good at taking fast corners its the S curves that kill it... Way too soft and too much body roll... You definitely feel the weight of the car as well whereas my M feels VERY light in comparison. Kudos to the M3 that went out to test.Too bad no vids. I may run up against a stock S4 this weekend who is planning on getting the same tunes and then we will do an after Tune run against me once he gets the tune to see the before and after. Quite interesting...

Its just a reflash and cat back muffler. No way a 335 would be able to pull that off with just those 2 mods. Mind you the 335 engine is older.

I love my M3 but by no means can you discount the new Supercharged S4... My only negative is that the DCT of Audi does not shift as fast as the M3 DCT.

The M3 is definitely a better handling car and still would probably beat a tuned S4 on the track. But the S4 engine has a lot of potential. Can't wait to start playing with mine!!!

The B8 S4 has actually been faster not only around the track but also in a straight line when run against the RS4, both stock. You add an ECU upgrade to it and it blows the RS4 away. Once the engine of the B8 S4 is truly explored the car is going to be a beast.

True. I almost bought an S4, but went with the M3. I looked at that thread, and while the S4 ECU flash sounds impressive, I wouldn't have done it to my brand new $50K car, and I'd be really skeptical about longevity. The only Audi I've owned (a 2008) burned oil like a 20 year old Ford, and roots blowers are not generally made for high RPM applications, which is where most of the gains are according to that thread. That could end up leading to some really expensive non-warranty repairs.

The new S4 is a great looking car with great performance - however - as fastestlaps.com shows, it is definitely not faster in a straight line nor on track compared to RS4 or M3.

Yeah, that was the only thing that bugged me about the S4 S-Tronic (DCT) during my test drive. Does the M3 DCT not do that (I haven't driven one).

I know you own an 6 MT M3 but it sounds like you have experience with the M3 DCT also. Cheers

Started comparing S4 with M3 since they are only off by 0.2 seconds in 0-60.
With about few thousand dollars of mods, the S4 should beat a stock M3. At a price differential of about $8k for the stock vehicles, the S4 is a compelling choice. |

S4 is not a compelling choice against the M3.
This thread is very similar to the countless 335i vs M3 threads....cheap ass tuned car vs stock car...it makes no sense.
