Any cool places to drive in Korea?
I'll be living in Korea for the next 2 years so I'm shipping my car here. Any cool places to drive?
Are there any tracks/HP driving schools here? I know the Ansan track is closed and the Yongin Speedway might close temporarily in 2010.

I was there just a few months ago for work. Speed traps and cameras everywhere. And I mean everywhere. They even calculate your average speed on major highways and so on. If your average speed is over the posted speed limit within given a stretch, they will kindly mail you a ticket or two.
Better find a track... public roads are heavily monitored in Korea. It's the most networked and wired country in the world, and so are the roads. There is a 'racing park' in Taebaek city (http://www.racingpark.co.kr/use/program.asp) . I think it costs about KRW 110,000 (USD 100) to buy a pass. Never had a chance to drive there myself... but I hear it's the best track that is publicly available. There is also the Korea International Circuit in Junnam Province, but it won't be completed until mid 2010. Last edited by major_kusanagi; 06-14-2009 at 01:50 AM.. |

The camera's are a PIA, I've got 2 tickets already. They were only 30k won, not too painful. That's why I need to find a road course somewhere. I've thought about trying to get into the driver testing course at night. Its pretty much an autocross setup.

OK, looking at Google maps, that Taebaek City circuit looks promising. There's a long twisty mountain road (31) on the way to the track. Its probably another 30-45min ride east from Wonju. So 2 hours total with no traffic. Probably a nightmarish 4+ hour ride w/ traffic.
Oh, Taebak city looks like a somewhat cool place to visit. Skiing, rafting, and sightseeing without overcrowding and polluted air? Hopefully the rafting water isn't like the Han river.
