The only way to get Carly to take this seriously is if everyone asks for a refund.

I think a company as Carly ( collaboration with german official used car check- institutions, dozens of TV commercials and features on german TV ) isn‘t really the right target for these kind of accusations. For that its just to long approved and successful on the global market.

We need to understand that not on every car model application, all features and options will work the same. Thats why you need to inform yourself before you spill out 50$. I personally believe there could be a few user fails that should also be taken into consideration. Like low battery voltage while coding, none OEM carly Adapter coding, FEM manipulation, FEM fails etc...

Carly is real and it hurts some people that earned many years alot of money from the car enthusiast world.
Basically we lived by the slogan:

CEL= open your wallet, baby
Coding = open your wallet, baby
Buy a used car= open your wallett baby and don‘t forget to get some lube

Since Carly got into the game these people have a super hard time and struggle alot.
On the other side, we as car owners benefit alot and saved a ton of money, alone by just reading our CEL‘s and let alone positive side effects as billion of coding options and features.
IMHO I believe behind Carly is a company with the right positive mind set towards the car crowd.

So do what I did to verify:

1) Buy Schwaben/Foxwell NT510 scanner
2) Try to register battery with Schwaben.....and you too will get a false-positive "battery success" message with them. Additionally, you will notice that the mileage is NOT reset either using Schwaben. Nor will your battery voltage hrs per voltage range be reset either. So basically Schwaben doesn't work either for registering the battery, but provides another independent verification that the Carly BMW didn't do sh** for battery registration.
3) Then take your car to a mechanic to do the battery reset correctly
4) Then verify the battery registration with the Schwaben scanner. You will see that the battery mileage (new one) is properly recorded and the battery voltage hrs reset to 0
5) Then verify with your Carly BMW tool. Low and behold, you will see that the new battery mileage is recorded. So this is nothing to do with the battery log not being read...as obviously the scanner is reading the log now.

EOM.
Ahhh so Carly says in some cases it can’t read a battery registry log but somehow can read it after a battery is actually registered lol

Apple didn’t save the convo history in their reply, but I only had to contact them once no back and forth pleading and I basically told them I made an in app purchase that’s supposed to register a bmw battery and it doesn’t actually work and their customer support doesn’t offer any help and it’s seeming like a scam purchase

Just adding to the false history reading crowd. Of course I didn't find this thread until after I purchased the $83 dongle, $45 pro app, and $10 add-on for battery registration.

I experienced the same issue...Carly app says successful battery registration but the last registration mileage is from 40k miles ago (by the way, if you change your units to imperial in the the Settings menu is will show miles and not km).

I have emailed them as well, hopefully it will get fixed so I don't have to take it into a shop. I need the correct mileage for my records.

On a side note, the faulty FRM deal is a big issue for me as well. I can't even code my mirrors to fold when locking the doors with the Carly app either.

I have a 2011.75 E90 M3.

Just my 2 cents.

I've had the same issues even using ISTA. This may not be the Carly apps fault.

yes it seems not many tools can register a battery BUT Carly shouldnt be alleging it can do things when it cant and charge people an added premium to do so, its the false advertising thats annoying.

to everyone curious i did get my full refund from Apple only sent one email and they refunded it within 10 business days

The answers from Carly Tech Support read like #fakenews. Each time you get a different response on this battery registration topic...ranging from:

1) Battery registration works, but for some reason you are not able to read the results with Carly
2) Change your communication port speed to SLOW, in order to read the data
3) We (Carly) admit that it doesn't work but will be implemented soon.

In my experience, Carly is a cool app but it's far from flawless. Also, their support has been from unresponsive to arrogant.

interesting info, now I gotta go check and see if there is an updated log after i did the reset with Carly (i assume not).

The real question here is how much of a difference does resetting the battery actually make?

Are we talking about reduction in battery life from 5 years to 2.5 years or from 5 years to 4.75 years?

I mostly use my Carly-Pro App to simply read codes and clear as needed. Save your 10.00 and don't bother getting the "battery registration" feature. It is useless. As many others have mentioned, Carly App has some flaws and limitation, but works great with some basic coding and scanning codes.

Coincidentally it looks like Carly just updated the battery registration functionality today.

I ran the check again and attached the results.

Also, I don't have the Carly dongle. I use a generic ELM327 WiFi dongle

I had to put a new battery in on New Year's Eve and used Carly. I noticed the RPMs bump when registering the battery, but it wouldn't read any mileage afterward. Maybe I will try it again now.

Well, for what it's worth, it appears to have worked this time with the update from Carly. But it took a second try. I had my communication set on slow the first time and the mileage of the last registration kept reading 0 miles.

For whatever reason, I decided to set the comm on fast and try again. The second time the mileage of the last registration updated to the car's current mileage.
