I modded my 335 with M-tech kit, BBS rs-gts, KW coilovers with H&R swaybars, rear spoiler, Vishnu V2. With the 335 there were clear benefits to the exercise. With the M3 I see less upside and then there is the cost. Only minor cosmetic mods like alum. pedals and so forth for me.

Minor visual Mods are ok but the car really is just fine as it is. A couple matt black spots will do

+1. As a matter of fact first thing I did when I got my car (first week) was to install a proper laser jammer.
I am of the exact same view and therefore I will not be moding my M3. Maybe if I get bored after a couple of years do a refresher with an exhaust (Ericsson?) combined with an ECU, but thats a big maybe. |

So far I haven't done anything because I just got it but I plan on putting on a Vorsteiner CF front lip and diffuser, CF side vent, CF (blue and silver) emblems, Aluminum pedals (M// logo), Changing the exhaust (but I haven't decided which one yet), CF Grill, and I saw on another thread IND is making some nice Vorsteiner Boot lid trunks with faded CF considering one of those. Also I'm considering dusting the 19 black but I'm on the fence on this because the original chrome is starting to grow on me. Although If I end up not doing any of this I'm still really obsessed with the M3 so it's all good lol.

IMO, one thing people need to appreciate more is how much technical know-how and engineering sophistication is involved with the development of high-technology components of the car such as the engine, suspension, drivetrain, chasis, etc. These components are developed by extremely capable (German) professionals with extensive programs costing tens of millions of dollars over almost half a decade. These are components that have undergone extensive testing -- in the lab, on the ring, in extreme cold weather, in the desert... They are engineered to ensure the proper performance and long-term reliability of the car. For example, the current E9x M3 started its development as early as Nov. 2003, if I remember correctly. This is not to say that there aren't any good aftermarket products -- there are -- but the majority of them have only been tested (if at all) on a handful of cars at most, so there is absolutely no long term testing or data showing whether these components will work in the long run. Mod your wheels, body panels, exhausts, interior all the hell you want. Just be cautious when you mod the high-tech components... my 2 cents |

I sense from this forum that the M3 is a "modders' car". Because it's a mass produced car it's full of compromises to help fleet statistics such as fuel economy just keep up with the Cadillacs, AMGs and Lexus of the world.
My mods so far include: Dinan throttle bodies Dinan 4.10 final drive Active Autowerke Signature mufflers 100 octane gas when it's time to go fast Planned: Dinan springs Some ECU that'll allow dyno tuning. Doesn't exist yet. Possible light weight wheels for autocross Possible high flow intake filter No cosmetic mods are planned. Dave

minor mods
my jb e90 so far has, afe pro 5r filter, painted reflectors, cf roundels for the hood, trunk, and wheels, tint, mtx 10" woofer and amp, macht snell spacers coming, tinted head and tailights. Thinking of exhaust, pulleys, and set of coil overs to adjust ride height when ones for edc come out, and hopefully im done after that. Hard not to find more and more to do, got the bug.
