Looks like Navi is standard
Hey all,
I found this on the web and if I am reading it correctly, looks like Navi should be standard option if this paper has any creditability. Link V/r SMSgt B |

Yes it is confirmed to be standard for the UK, for us in the United States it will be a option.

I think you need only look at the 2008 5 series. iDrive is standard, Navigation is optional. Don't confuse one with the other. iDrive now means interface for all the car's systems such as audio, climate, maintenance info, etc. All 5 series come with the iDrive screen and interface standard equipment. I suspect the M3 will get the same. If you have never used iDrive, don't believe all the nay sayers until you try it. I had iDrive on my 06 330i and concluded that I would never own another Bimmer without it. Actually, I will save two grand if iDrive is standard minus Navi...never used the Navi much but used the iDrive daily to set up the surround sound to my liking, select different audio sources, and now you can even control your iPod through the screen. :rocks:

If that whole I drive shit comes with the car....
Do we just pay for the Navigation DVD? or the option comes with a whole DVD slot?

Idrive could be very possibly a standard however, i dont think they will just give all of us navi. Remember this car will be alot cheaper here in the states and they are counting on us to buy alot of options to boost the prices up.

Here is what is listed on the bmwusa.com website as standard for the 5 series
"iDrive system with on-board computer and Controller, and 6 programmable memory buttons" Nav is a $1900 option. I suppose if you don't pay the $1900 either the Nav DVD slot is gone or nothing happens when you insert the Nav DVD as the circuitry is gone or disabled by BMW. That's my guess...

If you guys (I.e. the guys in the States) dont spec SatNav so you dont have the second hump in the dash, how do you use the IDrive? Surely they share the same screen?

That's what I am really afraid of--that we might be stuck with the ugly hump regardless of navigation choice.

The hump and screen is standard on all 2008 5 series....we will see soon enough for the M3 if that holds true...may be a no cost delete too...still many question marks in the US market.
