because the Race version itself is loud and if i did the xpipe it would be too loud, especially for some tracks. I want the extra performance from the xpipe but I don't want it to be crazy loud.

+1

If your goal is to add an x-pipe an exhaust that is NOT loude by itself will become considerably more loud with the X-Pipe. Adding an X-pipe to an already loud exhaust may make it intolerable to drive .

This is why I also chose the AA Exhaust and had I not I would have picked another quieter exhaust or the non race version (like the sport Eisenmann as opposed to the Race).

Im ready to go as soon as the snow is gone. The montreal guys are looking at early april hopefully. Hopefully Bimmerpost is ready by then.

I wouldnt mind setting up a group buy with them for the x-pipe seeing as I already ordered the AA exhaust and Pulley.

For those who my still be viewing this thread. I have PM'd several Eisenmann and A.A. owners for additional feedback. Many thanks to those who have responded. Here is what I have learned:

Eisenmann Sport:
-Very subtle, not much (if any) louder than stock. I have heard it and would agree, very bass tone and nice.
-While, likely the quietest exhaust in the group, one reported, "...still sets off car alarms in my parking garage at work if I rev hard..."
-excellent fit/finish, quality and tone. No install problems noted, many awaiting bolt-on pipes.
-No reported drone
-No complaints from anyone on product or service

Active Autowerke:
-Louder than stock but, not by much. Perhaps slightly more high pitch (F1-ish) than Eisenmann sport.
-Excellent fit/finish, no install problems to be noted. PERSONAL NOTE: I have read the complaints about the noise canceling canisters (looks odd, not generally popular). However, to me, it looks interesting and clearly shows there is something other than stock going on underneath...not all bad. I have noted that, in pcitures, it seems the right side NCC consistently seems lower, perhaps A.A. can offer a thought. Maybe just picture angles but, several pics.
-Slight drone around 2,000RPM, reported by some but many have noted this exists around the same RPM as the stock exhaust slight drone. One report that this drone was not detectable in-cabin but could tell slightly outside cabin. Another report that the drone disappeared (at least perceptuallly) after a couple hundred miles. No one indicated that it was a significant factor.
-No complaints from anyone on product or ultimately service (one shipping issue but was quickly resloved)

Just an FYI to those who might be interested. Both products are pretty expensive and given the economic times, this is not a small decision for many. None-the-less, I maintain that a V8 is a terrible thing to waste on the stock exhaust, and the consensus truly seems to be that either is an acceptable alternative in the "premium exhaust system" category.

Good analysis JPH.

You raise a point about the canisters not looking the same height in pictures. I measured mine from the ground and they're the same on my coupe. Unless the pictures are taken from exactly the middle an optical illusion may make one look lower than the others.

IMHO, the resonance at 2,000 rpm is there with all systems. Before my reports, AA guys were saying there's no resonance. Well, I heard it and measured it, both stock and AA Signature. I think that the owners of all systems downplay the noise. My reported 1 dB is very small, but real. BTW, my cars sets off alarms in both my office and apartment garages.

Ok, you've done the analysis, which will you buy. Will you flip a coin to decide?

I don't think that you'll go wrong with either.

I personally didnt really like the AA canister look but still went with them because Im a "performance" junky and they had the best dyno results.

I figured why stop at just exhaust and have since ordered the pulley and am scheduled for the AA ECU in april . Now Im debating about the AA catless X-pipe before I get the ecu so I can get the program specific to the catless system.

I havent spend a penny on cosmetics. My next big purchase would be Kw coilovers.

I understand some not liking the AA canisters, but I prefer them to stock and the Eisenmann. I think it's a personal thing. Everything is nice an shiny down there and easy to wipe clean. It looks like "quality" to me.

Thanks on the canisters, AA says fully adustable but, good to hear from someone else. I am totally obsessive/compulsive with things (especially expensive things) being symetrical. I would also tend to agree on resonance, any system that increases volume will increase resonance on some level. but, I am fine with a little.

Will PM you with some questions but, as for an answer on which one....I do not think you can go wrong with either but it may come down to price.

Anyone like the look of the NCC canisters?

Just curious, does anyone else (besides DCStep) feel like I do that the NCC canisters? Specifically, while they are non-traditional, that they look unique, curious and completely after-market (in a good way...not in a too ricey way)?

What do you think or

The canisters are a non issue...just a great exhaust. Just put on the AA air filter today and the really ties it together, air scoops go on tomorrow.

If you guys dont like the NCC's than get them powder-coated black. If I were to get this system I would get the entire system Powder-coated black except the tips.

I would powder coat the tips as well. If you do any kind of tracking of the car, the extreme heat will cause the tips to change color and have a bronze appearance. Power coating them black would be the way to go and that's what I'm looking into.

if you polish the tips with some #0000 steel wool and chrome polish, that yellow look will go away.

I had an Eisenmann sport on my E46 M3, and The eisenmann race on my e60 M5. The race is obnoxiously loud, the sport I loved, beefed it up just enough (for an M3)

And Eisenmann over AA because I think Eisenmann has the best quality out there.

So this is the third Eisenmann product I've bought...I think I like it haha.

For the turbo, its gonna be the Europipe exhaust...best quality, and 30 hp to the wheels!
