Airbag cover fading on brand new car!

The airbag cover on my brand new car is faded (see pictures below; the fading is more pronounced in person and in the sunlight). I purchased the car new about 2 weeks ago and have put about 400 miles on it. The car was manufactured in October 2011 and was on the dealer's lot for a couple of days at most. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this problem? I do not understand how this could happen on a brand new car. I do not think I should have an issue getting the dealer to replace this piece, but I do not know if I want them touching my car.

I would bet it's not fading. Did you try cleaning and then applying a good dressing?

I get my posts deleted for speaking some truth and justifying myself and posts like these are allowed to be made in the first place. You're in SoCal, go to the SoCal section and see which dealership has good reviews, take it to them and let 'em do their job. Yes it is an M3, great piece of engineering etc BUT it is not a Ferrari that someone else can't touch it. The techs know what they're doing, the people you should be aware of at the stealerships are the Service Advisors.

I should make a top ten worst threads of 2011 thread, lets see if that gets deleted too.

Hopefully you are right, but the pattern sure looks like fading in the sunlight. What kind of dressing should I apply? Wouldn't that just tend to cover up the problem areas?

I don't honestly believe you have a problem.

word-I seem to get posts deleted very frequently. I hate how big brother has now captured the m3 forum as another place to regulate an "open discussion forum"

Anyway you should not have to "dress" this piece for it to look new. Take soem soapy water and a microfiber and give it a nice rubdown. Then dry with microfiber. If still looks bad than take it in and they can replace it hopefully if it bothers you. I probably would not notice it

They will not replace an airbag unless it's faulty.

They replaced my steering wheel roundel on my 09 FYI. If your airbag cover is indeed damaged and not just dirty BMW should replace it. Some SA's may try to convince you otherwise..
