Can't meet OBD II Emissions Readiness

As the title says... I'm running an Akrapovic evo exhaust and running a BPM stage II tune on the car. No CEL, no codes, nothing else. The car has passed emissions several times before with an identical setup so that's definitely not the issue outright.

Not ready: O2 Sensor and Catalyst

I had a CEL go off a few months back because one of the O2s ended up going out but I replaced both of those so they should be good. I've been driving it around a fair amount but probably haven't met the conditions for a perfect drive cycle on any one drive since I live in NYC.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. If you have any ideas for further troubleshooting definitely let me know.

My thoughts are that I'm suprised you passed several times before with the same set up.
Generally I'd say no, you won't pass with that set up, but, I've been wrong before. Now, different car, different engine, good luck!

I assume it's a full Akrapovic exhaust....

Most likely its your tune is preventing your car from going into OBD readiness. The tune is preventing the rear o2 codes from popping up.

Some of the states changed their guidelines and now need all system in check to pass. When before 1 system could be not ready.

This happened to me, it's odd it only happened year 3 and not 1-2 just like you. They told me the system was reading it was blocking the sensors and that's why it wasn't throwing a code. Basically it showed faulty sensors

So NY is still 1. If I remember correctly, before I cleared my codes after fixing my O2s, the only one that was not ready was O2 Sensor (Cat monitoring seemed to go ready). Nothing on the car has changed other than swapping in new front O2s. And yes it's a full exhaust.

You need all sensors ready to pass in ny. Revert back to stock tune and stock x pipe. Follow the bmw ftp drive cycle and you'll pass. Been there done that. I can let you borrow my x pipe if you're in a jam.

Check this out. You're actually allowed 1 monitor not ready. It's how I passed last year. Car setup is no different that before just can't figure out if something else is shot and hasn't thrown a code yet or I just need to drive more to get it down to 1.

Those are referring to the cats brother. Trust me I have been down this road and helped a bunch of forum members. I dealt with the exact same situation as you where the car passed previously. Revert to stock tune, stock x pipe and complete the ftp drive cycle.

Ny is exactly the same as New Hampshire. You can have 1 not ready as long as it’s not o2 or catalyst those need to be ready regardless. Nothing changed in ny or nh as far as monitors are concerned your o2 has always been ready if you were passing before. Now saying that if this is the first time you have every cleared the cpu of codes after your tune was loaded I would reload your tune. Your tune more then likely made those monotirs ready with there trickery. Other option would be complete the actual drive cycle. I have the exact same setup as you aside I have stage 2 Ess tune. I passed nh this year after completing drive cycle drive after battery was replaced. Drive cycle sucked As I learned you really do need to be very precise doing it. Other option as stated is go back to stock for the test

You can’t go catless in mass unless it’s tuned out and you know someone. I am not sure but I think even the high flow converters fail in ma now due to a visual check? Ny and nh started visual emission tampering in 2016. High flow cats pass in either state though missing they are supposed to fail regardless of obd

There is no stage 2 tune which allows o2 readiness on a catless setup...

The O2 Monitor was never ready on the last inspection but Catalyst monitor went ready with the stage II.

Its not the tune its the fact its catless. I know people on this board that have a BPM Stg. 2 tune and just put the OEM xpipe back on and they got rear 02 readiness.

The tune just won't allow the inefficient catalyst code to kick off. They still monitor rear 02 sensors. If a rear 02 sensor fails it will kick off a CEL.

Figured I'd give you guys an update. Had the car out this weekend and tried using a different OBD scanning app on my phone and had it stream the data output from the 4 O2 sensors. Turns out Bank 1 Sensor 2 isn't giving any output changes and is totally shot. Will be swapping out the sensor next time I can work on the car and I'll update if everything is back to normal.

Can't pass do to Readiness

Hello all, I just got my first BMW and went to have my emissions done yesterday and failed. The guy said that I failed do to readiness.... I had a engine light come on for a few days back in November, but it went off. I know I have driven over 100+ miles since then. What should I do? Is there any way to reset this? Or since it was plugged up to the emissions do I start driving 100+ now?
