Need guidance to ship an exhaust
Hi-
Can anyone point me to shippers who can ship our OEM exhaust (which seems to be in one piece and hence cannot be dismantled) from Denver to New Jersey please? I checked the UPS in NJ but they said none of their branches can if the dimensions go beyond 7 feet. I think the length of our exhaust goes slightly over that. Car shipping companies refused to ship parts separately. Thanks in advance! |

Try ups freight or greyhound? Regular UPS only handles small-med packages.

The center X-Pipe and muffler can be separated.
The center x-pipe measures 80 inches in length. The muffler and connecting pipes measures about 60 inches in length. Both of which can be shipped through Fedex and UPS. |

Greyhound Package Express has been cheapest way of shipping larger items.

I second Greyhound PX. Cheapest way to ship larger/heavier items. Dont sweat finding big boxes, just get random boxes, break them down, then shape them around the exhaust, finally plastic wrap/tape them up.

Thanks for the very helpful tips everyone!! Much appreciated.
I have to fly from NJ to Denver to do this as the items are in my friend's garage for quite some time. Will try grehound freight first and the other options. Thanks again!! |

Whoa - Big relief to read this!! I am yet to see the exhaust and was going by the opinion given by my friend who thought it could not be separated since they look welded (and hence my search for the carries who can ship stuff measuring more than 7 ft). Do you know if the separation can be done by (dumb ) guys like me in the garage or do I risk damaging it if I don't know what I am doing? Have you done this btw? Thanks a lot!! |

Since your dimensions seem accurate and result in 6.67 ft, I guess that should be possible with UPS also. Will keep everyone posted once I book my trip to Denver and get this all shipped out. Thanks! |

Yes, the seller had already done that and it was the center x piece that I assume will pose a challenge. Let me see how it goes. |

Update
Heads up that I had the boxes and the exhaust shipped thru Greyhound. All reached me in great condition. The exhausts were packed really well (all by my friend in Denver) and so no issue; two of the boxes were slightly empty and though contents were bubble wrapped, the box itself wasn't sturdy. But it still made the trip from Denver to Chicago to Manhattan and then to Albany in very good shape.
Cost wasn't that high either. It was a slight pain to talk on the phone to the customer service in charge of tracking - who seem to have outdated systems and gave me misleading and inaccurate answers a few times. But no big deal. If one is not in a hurry and have bulky stuff to ship, would recommend Greyhound! Thanks for all those who responded. |

The most important thing is to choose the best shipping company. I had a few experiences when the package was damaged. That's why now I work only with Guardian shipping company. They always delivered all the cars in time. I own a small used car dealership, so I have to work every day with them. I never had any problems with that company. Also, I think that they have the best prices on the market. Also, they ship small packages not only cars. So if you need such services you can contact them. You won't be disappointed.
