P-Zero Chuncking

Saw a post on FB from Porsche 992 owner who had is Pirelli P-Zero chunk up on him. Just wondering if you guys have any thoughts. It was the outside edge that chunked while the inside edge looks properly worn.

What's the manufacture date? Old tires can harden and chunk.

I think he said it was 2021. It's the stock tire on a 992 Carrera.

No idea about that. I wasn't there. Just got some pics of the tires.
Figured he over heated them and they have too much tread on them and stated to chunk.

It's not uncommon to see a street tire chunk after hard track use - especially if they are full tread like you mentioned.
Seen it countless times, across different vehicles and various (street) tires.

Didn't have that issue on my BMW Star spec P-Zeros and I wore them down from nearly new to 3 mm over a very hot weekend.

For that chunking, it almost looks like some debris was attached to those parts and were torn off.

This is standard for a tire that has been given too much slip angle for the tread depth. Tread squirms, heats up, says "F-this" and tears off. BTDT on full tread depth RA-1s back in the mesozoic era. Look at the center rib for the tear off of the whole circumference. This tire has been overworked.

FWIW, I applaud the 911 owner for using his car as intended. Well done!
