M3 September build specs...and production started on 7/26??
Okay...so I placed an order on a 2011.5 M3 Coupe with my dealer last week. September build specs...convenience package, premium package 2, EDC as stand alone option, etc, etc.
BMWNA is telling me the car went into production starting yesterday (7/26)???? How does that work. I plan to call my CA later today, but I'm confused by the build already starting for an order with the new September specs. Any thoughts? |

That is odd... Sounds to me like you got a pre 2011.5 car or its a fault with the system.

Yep...very odd. I can look at the production sheet for the order I signed and it clearly notes the September changes and new codes for the various packages. I don't see how BMW would take that order and then build a car based on the specs of the pre-2011.5. I've sent an e-mail to my CA...so hopefully he can explain it.

When you say BMWNA, is this over the phone or the website? I ordered my car on Saturday (7/24) with the Sept changes as well. I've been a little paranoid that I would get a pre-Sept build despite my clear instructions that I wanted the Sept changes. Good luck!
Edit: The website just says On Order for my car while the computerized phone system says scheduled for production with no firm production date...

I have since spoken to my CA and he assured me that the Sept. updates would make it on my car. I can also see on the BMW website that my options do include the convenience package and the other post-Sept. updates...so I'm assuming all is good and they are just implementing the Sept. changes now. The factory is still going to shut down for the month of August so who knows if the car will actually be finished before September. In any event, I've made it clear to the dealer that I expect the car to have the Sept. updates...and they assured me it will. Worst case scenario is it comes in with the older options and I don't take delivery. But I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. |

Ha! You might, but I suspect security would chase you away, no tents allowed on the grounds...

This is the fifth BMW i have ordered and the previous four were all trouble free though none were on the cusp of model changes like we're seeing right now. In my experience, the dealer has the most up to date information with the website being well behind reality and BMWNA not being much better.

Changes are small from my perspective.
For the iPod option, a single cable rather than the "Y" cable, ability to display album art on the iDrive screen rather than just artist and song title. Basically the iDrive will now use the iPod menu system. Ability to transmit music over BT as I recall as well. The M Drive button is now standard but in combination with the Drive Logic that comes with the DCT, some additional flexibility in the settings... Detailed changes to the iPod and others here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=407342 Frankly they are minor changes but another issue is simple timing. The lease on my 550 is up in October. A September build likely means an October delivery. A late July build could mean an August/September delivery. That could result in two payments for a month or two. At the end of the day, I timed my order (July 24th) so that it would be a September build to get these changes and avoid the potential double payment. And my dealer promised it would be a September build because their allocation for August was full.

Hey dardeca, did your production sheet show an order status production code? Mine showed 112 order production date scheduled per the sticky up top. To my understanding, this meant the it was a car my dealer already had an allocation for and they gave it to me. When I initially checked it out on the BMWUSA website, it showed as a 335. A day later it switched to my M3 sedan.

Did your CA confirm this or was it BMWNA customer service? When BMWNA customer service told me my car had started production, they were unable to give me an answer as to specs and/or confirm that it was being built to Sept specs.
