What is the point of launch controll?
i know what launch controll is used for but on the e9x m3 its retarded and useless...
in the E46 M3 when you launch the car holds still untill you release the smg lever. but on the e92 when you engage "launch control" the car creeps forward while on launch control so its completely useless for drag or any "launching" whats up with that?

Common knowledge the rear end on these cars can't take launching consistently and will eventually result in a differential bushing or bolt failure. |

I don't understand what this means above. A car not made for launching? The car has done a 3.9 0-60 and a 12.5 quarter mile. The m3 nowadays is a straight line rocket that hangs with everything in its category until the C63 powerpack came out.
3.9 is supercar speed 10 years ago. The m3 definitely is even stronger in driving balance but a 420 pound v8 with 7 gears and 3600 pounds is really a blast and fast in a straight |

Level ground has nothing to do with it. The car rolls forward when you apply throttle. Otherwise how do you explain the car sitting still prior to engaging launch control without the brake on?
I'm with the OP. it moves.

Well.. The point of launch control is to electronically assist drivers of both racing and street cars to accelerate from a standing start.
Why do you need it? The high power delivery to the gearbox and driven wheels cannot easily be managed even by the most skilled drivers when attempting to launch from a standing start. This does not apply to the M3 as it has a horrible launch control that be creepin when you least expect it |

Not only that, the e46 had two modes of its launch control. It had its kill mode which would rip the tires. Then it had its launch mode which would take off without spinning. This e9x of ours only has kill mode. It's useless unless you have the proper tires. And I'm also with the OP, it creeps forward. Made me trip the lights at the track.

only way to make it not creep is if there is a slight incline.

On the other hand, those tests were down with roll out, so maybe it's appropiate in this thread with the creep http://www.caranddriver.com/features...nce-of-rollout http://www.nogaroblue.com/27978/30426.html Last edited by HighandDry; 02-27-2013 at 10:20 AM.. |
