I think I wore out my DSC off button
Looks like the part numbers are the following:
61317841135 <- No EDC 61317841136 <- EDC Both are about $140 Symptoms: Button just feels weird lately, like one of the little plastic guide legs that's usually molded into the backside of the button is broken Anything else I should do while I'm in there if the damn thing gets too chintzy-feeling? I suppose pushing it multiple times per drive so I can use cruise control probably shortened its life, I bet they test to about 1,000 cycles since most people would leave it alone, and I'm well past that.

I can't help you or suggest other work to be done while you're replacing that button.
I can, however, congratulate you on being a baller. I've never heard of someone wearing out their DSC Off button. |

You broke the rear legs on the button. I did the same thing. I was lucky to find one from a used car and replaced the whole assembly with the DSC/Power button. Once you take it apart (your button will pop right out now that it's broke) you'll see the back is cheap looking with little clips. |

So as an update, if you feel your button start to feel funny, take it off all the way if you can do it without breaking it more, and you might be able to save it without tearing apart the center console. There are two short legs toward the driver which keep the button from popping out, and two "arch" legs with holes in the middle that capture two pins toward the shifter which hold the thing in the button assembly and allow it to pivot. Mine had a broken, but not broken-off, arch leg, which I was able to repair with gorilla-brand super glue gel, and I replaced the button and all is well for now. Yay.
By the by, this seems like an excellent candidate for a replacement upgrade part made out of something like titanium. NEVER WEAR OUT YOUR DSC BUTTON AGAIN! SAVE 0.5 GRAMS! BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL $500

Button Cluster Removal?
Hi,
I am getting my buttons replaced by the dealer I bought from, anyone know if I can diy it if I just get the part from them? Was planning just have the car off, and try to pop the console trim off and then try to swap the button switch out all with a trim removal tools etc. Or is their any coding involved for a new one? Thanks in advance.

Very east DIY especially for 6mt/no iDrive like my car. Pry up the center console trim near the ebrake using a plastic trim tool, then pull up and pop the trim out it's held on with friction clips all along its perimeter, disconnect the black connector for the buttons, yank the shift knob off the shifter and disconnect the shift knob wiring, then disconnect the ashtray power wiring, the buttons are just clipped in, just replace no coding required. IDrive and DCT knob I have no idea what to do to remove.
Sadly my super glue fix didn't hold. Took maybe 10 minutes total to replace. Good time to do a shift knob while you're in there if you like Also, the new part will have the dsc pictogram with a car doing a burnout instead of just "DSC OFF". My car is an 08 with DSC OFF originally, and the later cars (I think beginning with LCI) have the pictogram. I think the pictogram looks cool but if you are a stickler for originality you'll want to repair yours or find a used early button or somethig. God help you if that's you. I looked briefly and then snapped out of it

Mine started feeling funny while under warranty, so I took the car in and it was replaced for free. One of the clips on the button was broken. Wouldn't hurt you to see if the dealer will handle that for you, especially if your SA is cool like that.

Re: the pictogram of the car on the DSC OFF button. Richbot saw it as an M3 doing a burnout, I saw it as an out-of-control car (probably an M4) heading into a curb. Maybe I'm a hopeless pessimist and should seek therapy?

I should paint a few stick figures pointing and laughing on there
I also think it's funny that the only word on the button is now "OFF". As in, " press here to go 4 wheels off"

FYI. The blank middle broke off. BMW actually warrantied it! Although...they won't warranty seized up 4 year old tie rods. But hey...at least the car looks good.

I assume the only way that one breaks is if you're pushing the DSC off button a lot with your foot or a hammer, so yeah, it counts

I need to do this same fix, can someone post a couple of pics on how to change out the switch? I've already ordered the new part, but I don't usually work on cars, so I don't want to break something else in the process.
My car: 2008 M3 E93 with MT without idrive. Thanks! |

You'll need to take a bit more care because of the convertible top switch but it's the same process as this, you just stop after taking the trim off
