Can satellite radio be retrofitted in my car?

...I don't have any package but the Premium Package. I would prefer to have it done at the dealer for peace of mind.

If not, I've seen some threads where people are talking about streaming radio stations through their smartphones. I have a Blackberry. I do have the iPod/USB adapter in my car. Can it be done on the Blackberry and how, through the AT&T Music/Music Apps application? I'm a little behind the curve when it comes to technology, so thanks for any immediate help you can give to keep me from searching all over hell-and-back.

Cheers!

I did search to find an answer to the sat rad question, but the verdict is inconclusive based on all I've read. Can't tell if you need to have a certain package, or have the car wired for sat rad at the factory (even though you don't actually get it).

If you have iDrive = Sirius tuner-built in in MY2010: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...35&postcount=4

If you don't have iDrive = your radio has to be replaced.

Bumped this thread to ask: Can this be answered for a my 2009 E92 production date Jan 09 with idrive?

Dealer is quoting me "$900-$1,100" but no details behind that.

Is there a part from Tischer I can get for the car to DIY?

As stated above, that only applies to MY2010.

Your dealer will install an external Sirius tuner in you car for that price.

Technic: Do you know the situation with DAB in Europe?

It's our version of the Sirius, but from what I understand, it can't be retrofitted to a 09+ without buying a complete new dab enabled Cic.

The 08 models had a separate Dab module which ran alongside the CCC. I can't see why it can't run with the Cic in the same way

^^ I thought DAB in Europe was your version of our HD Radio, not Sirius. HD/DAB is broadcast radio using a digital signal. Sirius is a subscription satellite service.

Sorry, I meant HD. I'm not too familiar with the US formats

Thanks.

I'll do some research on Tischer to see what options I have.

In the USA HD Radio became standard with the introduction of the CIC. My guess is that the same happened with DAB in Europe, therefore no retrofit of an external DAB tuner is supported as it is not required anymore.

Decided to skip the dealer and go aftermarket.

Bought OnyX XM tuner at Walmart, $59.99. Two mounts by proclipusa.com, $64.45. Took advantage of an expired Sirius subscription for six months for $24.99.

Good to go.
