3 generations
anybody on here have an e36 M3, e46 M3, and the latest generation of e9x M3? i already have an e90 and found a couple of earlier m3's that i also like. i have driven all 3 models and think this would be pretty cool to have each. any input on your collection or thoughts is welcome.

I have a '98 E36 M3 sedan and an '05 E46 M3 (ZCP). A 2011 E90 ZCP is on the way.
I planned to sell the E36 when I got the E46, but couldn't do it - the car is like a go-cart. I'm now trying to find excuses to keep the E36 again. I much preferred the E36 driving experience to the E46 until the newer car got coilovers. While the E36 lacks the horsepower of the E46 and E9x, it's not missed, and the 3175 pound weight is a welcome change from most newer cars. They're all great - and different. Now all I need is an E30! |

I loved the RGR's on an E30. I had MK's on my E30 back in the day. I've had 2 E30's (selling one now) and 3 E46's, didn't really dig the E36 US car so i jumped to audi for a little while in the 90's. I definately don't miss the huge audi service bills.

Close -- I've owned an MRoadster, which I selected over an E36 M3 Convertible, an E46 M3 Convertible and my current ride an E90 M3 sedan. Each car was unique and very enjoyable.
MRoadster had gobs of torque and very wide power band, looked very cool from the rear. The E46 was gorgeous car, fun to drive, but, in the end, had reliability issues: the coil failed, which was the subject of a TSB, the rear toe link went out causing it to eat tires like there was no tomorrow, and finally the converter clog, causing me to throw in the towel. However, two weeks after I traded my car BMW issued a recall, which would have paid for the repair and would have caused me to keep the car. That said, the E90 is the best all around car with the best performance hands down. I was skeptical of the V8 because, in my mind, BMW = inline 6. But, the V8 is an awesome motor and is every bit as smooth as the inline 6's. The sedan is also very practical for my growing family. |
