E9X Prices Skyrocketing
Sup everyone.
I am seeing a lot or really nice low mileage examples coming on to market lately. BaT has helped with the awareness since there has been high transaction prices for all to see. Some of it has been cars that aren't all that unique. EAG also has some high list prices although no idea if these are based in reality. Maybe anecdotal evidence, but I have been watching a number of e9X M3s at dealers that have been up for sale - again nothing unique but perhaps in nice condition - and now recently (end of March 2021) relisted at significantly higher prices. Never seen this and have been following the market casually for a while.

I know that finding nice E90 M3 is getting much harder. I bought my 2008 E90 M3 with 58k mi in October 2019 for a nice price of $19,500. My CU valued it around $21,000 so I didn't get hurt at all buying it. At the time, there were several E90 M3 in my local area with ok mi going for $20k-22k. Now E90's are ghosts and the ones you do find, they want more money with high miles. KBB keeps sending me emails telling me the valuation of my M3 keeps increasing in 3-4% increments. I'm not sure if people are becoming a bit nostalgic for the E9x or what is driving the increase.

I'm noticing this as well, but more so in and around the enthusiast market. Prices seem to be more stable on sites like Car Gurus which aren't geared specifically toward enthusiasts. A little tough to tell right now if the price increases are a true reflection of the market or just an influx of new sellers overvaluing their cars. Makes me wonder if they're actually selling for higher prices or just being listed higher.

An '08 e93 6spd just sold on BAT yesterday for ~$35k with the premium. It was a really nice spec and well cared for with low miles, but that is strong money. Happy to see the e93 finally getting a little love.

The Atlantic blue e92 on BaT is already up to like $63k. Rare car bc it was the only one made in that color (by mistake). But still that is crazy money and there are still a lot of days left on the auction.
I bought an e90 2011 slicktop, zcp, single hump from a local dealer in Jan '21 for $25k with 95k miles. I bet I could get $30k for it on BaT due to the desirability and rarity of the spec and the immaculate condition of the vehicle but I ain't selling! |

The KBB value of mine has gone up over $6k in the last 2 monthes...$800 in the last week! I think people are realizing that they are special cars and I am NOT inpressed with the new ones.

Carvana have been buying them up and moving them relatively quickly. A few have sat and they slashed the prices on them ($1k) might be because of the paint defects. It is nice to see them at these prices though...

I think every sporty car is going up in price, and has been since last year. Blame the stimulus?

I feel like I hit a sweet spot with mine last year at 21k OTD for 73k miles. I think the 60-70k mile cars sit a good bit lower on the market than the 40-50k mile cars.

Same over here. The 2008s are at the same, or higher , price point now than when I bought my (2011) end 2013, obviously with significantly higher mileage.
Not sure if they get sold or if its just owners driving each other. I'm guessing though the good shape ones actually are sold at fairly high price to dudes who knows what they want, while there is a pile of half trasched and not maintained trying to hang onto the price trend without getting there. Very different in the UK though, LCI low mileage comp pack on all the rest seems to go for very low in comparison. |

^ Carvana would have bought my car at nearly the same price I bought less than a year ago. Almost like a short term lease. Of course I wouldn't because I've put a lot of money into it since then, but I was slightly shocked.
I like most, have been actively searching for a E90 6MT and recall seeing a dealer raise their price by $2k in a week. I know about ADM, but I don't know if I ever seen a dealer raise their price on any car after original listing. |

I love franchise stores that seem to have to stick to KBB pricing guidelines and the rare moments they get E9X's. Like that one 2011 E90 ZCP at Autonation with low miles for $35K with 24k miles. Too bad it sounds like it was in poor condition. Any other boutique dealer would've listed it for $49k. |

I'm glad EAG props up prices for
Mint specimens— It just means benefit when/if you eventually sell your mint car

If you want one, 08s still tends to go for cheap, and they're for the most part the same as a 13!

I'm fairly positive that clean e9x ZCPs will be the most expensive most sought after M3 in any generation in the long term.
Future classic. 10 years from now- people will be saying you could buy them for only 40k back then, what a deal! |

What do you predict ZCPs will cost in ten years— say under 20k miles.... ?

Maybe people are realizing how much better V8's are compared to tiny turbocharged fart cans with slushboxes.
