here in El Paso I can get 109 octane VP fuel, maybe Sunoco 104. Like I said my last blend was 91/109 (75%/25%), thats likely overkill, but car runs a lot better. The 109 was $12.50 gallon.

Chuck the VP 109 fuel is actually a 105 R+M/2, which is what you go by. It has a research octane rating of 109. Anything higher than this and it is usually leaded.

Just filled up again with 100/91 today at the 76 on woodside rd (Redwood City, CA).

It's up to $6.99 a gallon now! Wish I never tried it in the first place because now I'm hooked. :/

I did this the other day as well. 5 gallons (resulted in a full tank) of 100 octane from the same place. To be honest, I don't feel any difference. Maybe I need a bit more?

That's not entirely true. If you're running 87 octane in your M3, your car will most likely pull timing; this would result in less ponies.

Once you switch back to the higher octane you'll feel a difference.

Mikelaca, your original comments had me laughing all morning. Excellent writeup!! I've been running Shell VPower because of the lack of ethanol in it. I'll try Sunoco 94 for fun (we don't have any 100's around here).

If only we could get some E85 tunes for the M3's...
Just think: 105 octane, burns cleaner, cooler and avg price of $3.00 a gal

E85 is the worst thing to happen to this country. It is such a scam!! They need to cut that stuff out ASAP!

In normal driving E85 in Flex-Fuel vehicles typically lowers mpg by 35-40%. The only thing happeningwith ethanol is enrichment of cornbelt farmers. Ethanol is 100% scam of consumers.

To run straight E85 you also need a fuel system that can handle 100% alcohol without melting or corroding.

LOL, I knew you guys would fire back.. I tuned several cars that run on E85.. 600whp STI's, 700 WHP EVO's, 750 whp civics etc.. I even have my 14:1 compression Honda TRX 450r running on this fuel..
Been tuning and running E85 for years without problems. There is so much mis-information out there on E85.. Yes you do burn 20-30% more. So your $3 a gallon goes up to $3.90 for E85 (30% more).. Until you tried it you will not understand the beauty of this fuel... I run it all year around (even in the winter) and if its tuned correctly and you have large enough fuel pump (usually run twin bosch 044's for 600whp+ E85) and large enough injectors you are good to go.. Do some research and you will find a lot of HIGH HP Cars running this.. for example: EVOMS Evolution MotorSports E85 60-130 MPH 3.96 Second..fastest 996TT / 997TT

I have no doubt that highly engineered, one-off cars can be made to use the fuel well. What I object to is the government using tax payer dollars to prop up an industry that cannot survive without continuous subsidies.

The demand is artificial and is the result of target production levels from legislature. It makes no sense to produce ethanol in the US; we could import it for far cheaper if the government would remove a tariff or two. So the government is not only pushing a product on you that is less efficient, but the fuel will also cost more. Oh and they used your money to help sell it to you too.

Thanks for the info but your headed off topic here...

Most vehicles produced since the early-mid 1990's have fuel lines capable of running e85... You just need to make sure your injectors and fuel pump can support 30% more fuel

Likewise, thanks for the info but this thread is already all over the place. You are talking about 600HP ethanol cars.

I was commenting on TrackRat's statement that this is a scam to consumers; and it is.

So, I've been running a perfect 50/50 blend of Shell 91 and Sunoco 100 for about a week now. This produces an octane of 95.5. 8 gallons of each. Its pretty awesome. Immediately I noticed how much smoother it is. Less herky-jerky, better throttle response, and its definitely got a bit more pep. True, it seemed to take about 1/4 tank for the ECU to adjust, but once it did, its noticeable. The smoothness was immediate after fill-up. The power came after about 75 miles or so.

It nets out to be about $30/fill-up more expensive. About $90 fill total. Not something I'll do every time, but more often over the summer. I'm enjoying it.

My station also carries Sunoco 260 GT PLUS (104 octane). Is this SAFE to blend with 91 octane? Its the same price as 100, so it would just make it a bit cheaper.

Yes this is safe, I wish I can find Sunoco 260GT, all we get it seems here in Cali is 100VP Racing Unleaded. I use to be able to get F&L Racing 105.

Down in San Diego, we have VP Racing fuel. Is this a good fuel, or do they use Torco?

I normally stick with Chevron to keep everything clean under the bonnet. How is VP's 91 octane fuel in comparison to Chevron/Shell? I'd rather not go from station to station everytime I need a fill-up.

You don't need to have a high horsepower car to see the benefits of ethanol. If you saw the gains of running E85 in any turbocharged car or even NA cars you'd see why. E85 is like running 110octane.

I came from driving an Evo X and E85 alone gave me +50~whp +70~wtq over running 91 octane. It also burns cleaner and the engine itself is also cleaner. Have you seen an engine that's been running E85 compared to normal gasoline? The 20-30% increase in consumption was offset by the lower price.

Interesting. Our local 100 octane fuel station has VP Racing insignias over all of the pumps and on their marque. Google states that it is a Chevron, but Chevron doesn't list them as being apart of their network.

Check out the streetview below and tell me what you think?
