No idea, I would call the dealer for help. All I can say, sorry.

There is a keyhole on the trunk. It faced down and is near the indentation where the license plate is on the trunk lid.

How to open the trunk with no battery
2 options, ZK is correct about the keyhole hidden on the underside of the lip by the pad, or you can obtain power by hooking up a battery to the engine area where there is a specially marked + sign and negative to any grounded metal in the hood. Also note, the FOB has a hidden key that can be manipulated out of the FOB itself to use in the keyhole. Hope this helps

What I would do is open the "through-hole" in the middle of the back seat and see if I could reach the back seat releases. Then release the back seats and crawl in the trunk and use the emergency trunk release. Otherwise, I would connect a 12V power source to the power socket or open the hood and connect it to the battery jumper points. |

It's inoperable on M3s, so completely useless. That's why it was deleted on newer models. Almost broke the key trying to open it, only to learn it didn't work on any other '08 . It's not connected to anything.
And yes, best way to open it is #1 with a jump, or #2 with somebody crawling thru the ski-bag opening (if equipped). And yes, the seats fold down, but from inside the trunk. Good day. |

Not for the E92 like the OP has - its standard, and there is no non-folding back seat option. But yes, for the E90 it is an option.
Really? I'm pretty sure people have used it. I'll check it out on my '08 e93. |

Can't you just reconnect the battery and hit the button?

I had to try this with my old 335i. I had to turn the key with a wrench to open it... almost broke the key.

Anything after 09 doesn't have a keyhole in the trunk. Cost cutting at it's finest.

My M5 has a cable that is under the back seat. Just lift up the lower part of the seat and pull the cable and that releases the trunk. Since the M5 has no trunk keyhole either. I would think the M3 would be similar since it has no keyhole either.
