Got the Akrapovic Slip-on >>> First Impressions

Just installed the Akrapovic slip on to replace the Meisterschaft GT and have mixed feeling for now. Here are my first impressions....

Didn't realize how bassy/boomy it is on start-up The boom is way too loud and really annoying to be honest. Have to pull out of my garage real quickly fearing what the neighbors might say. Being loud is one thing but the boom is on another level as it seems to reverberate off the walls and make my kitchen and bedroom walls vibrate. Anyone who says it is only slightly louder than stock, I don't know what you are listening to.However, once it warms up, it quietens down quite a bit but I still notice the boom in the lower rpm's when pulling out of parking lot's or anytime at slow speeds.

On a positive note, it's got a nice hum to it when cruising around and pretty nice tone all the way upto 5500 rpm. However, after 5500 rpm thru redline, it stays relatively quiet and the S65 noise drowns it out. That is totally opposite of the Meisterschaft GT which screams at higher rpm's.

Anyways, just wanted to share my first thoughts. Am going to give it some more time before deciding if I want to keep this, go the M Perf route or revert back to the Meisterschaft GT.

If you have the cold start turned off, you will get rid of the louder sound during startup. The Akra is definitely one of the more tame exhausts out there. I would def keep this exhaust over most others. M Perf is ok as long as you don't plan on an x-pipe.

Are there any downsides to turning the cold start off through coding?

Cold start cannot be turned off via coding. You would have to have a tune in order to accomplish that. The cold start is for emissions so there is really no detriment to turning it off.

My guess is it has to be coded? Correct? Where can I go for that? Dealer would probably void warranty if I went to them and probably refuse to do it. Any drawbacks to having it tuned off?

Haha, then you know exactly what I mean. The Meisterschaft is way quieter on startup as hard as that is to believe.

Cold start can only be turned off with a tune. We can sell you a performance tune anytime you'd like. Why would the dealer void your warranty? No drawbacks.

yep, slip-on will be on the tame side. Add some test pipes or x-pipe, it will sing perfectly. Not sure if the boom will be reduced, I think that's the way it just sounds.

Saw you reply on the cold start after I had already posted. Disregard the comment on the dealer voiding warranty. I was under the impression that cold start is turned off only through coding and the dealer is likely not to support that and could possibly void warranty. Now that you have cleared that up, the question doesn't apply

I was referring to the "Cold Start delete", not the exhaust.

Congrats OP.

I hated the cold start feature as well and just couldn't get used to it. It was rediculously loud particularly at work in my parking garage so I got rid it with a tune update.

Ha, I just installed my slip-on yesterday and I'm surprised by how bassy/loud it is. I'm wondering if I torqued down the clamps tight enough...

That is just how it sounds. I had some trouble keeping the stock rounded clamps straight as I was tightening them down.

Good to know. I'll probably get used to it. I remember when I first got the car (stock), I thought something was broken because it was too loud. Cut to a few months later, I got the slip-on because it wasn't loud enough...

I guess at this rate, it'll have a straight pipe by 2014.

If it bothers you now it will only get worse with time. If you are considering doing the xpipe it will only amplify the sound.

What is the issue with combining the M performance with an X-Pipe?

The MPE gets really raspy with a xpipe or cat delete.
