LUX H8's being recalled!!

I just got an email saying that certain LUX H8's are being recalled back because of a problem that may damage the car.

Did anyone else get this email??

If I get the refund, what am I going to get now!?!? AiB's aren't bright enough, OSS's are too expensive, and the other brands all suck!

One could always send the Lux kit back for "repair", as they call it - they will extend the wires so the little black box is external to the light housing. Not ideal, but at least one could retain the functionality of the Lux kit.

I'm going on a two week+ driving trip from Canada down to Los Cabos next week, and catching Bimmerfest on the way back - I wonder if I should risk it, or should I take the Lux kit out???

I really havent noticed anything odd or any over heating from the lux kit....

but i wouldnt know how to monitor overheating problems without popping the hood to check...

however, just the fact that it is recalled is unsettling....

Im taking mine out today...bc you just never know when it can go wrong

Same here. The thing I don't like is that it will have an external black box and inline fuse, meaning I have to drill a hole in my headlight housing. Not so sure I want to do that.

Time to lower your price OSS!

I just checked my kit, it says 07/2009 on it

I was one of the first to get the LUX H8 last year.

I called the 800 # in that recall letter, and I am apparently not affected.

YAY!

I'm not sure I understand. Are you guys suggesting that they haven't fixed the problem on new production and that would be an option still? Or are you concerned that their whole design is flawed?

This is terribly ironic, as ordering these was on my list for this week......

Hey Everyone,
I want to start off saying that i never expected this to happen, but unfortunately it is something that is serious. There has been an issue with one of the power supplies, and because of the heat that bulds up inside the housing, it had caused damage to the power supply, short circuited, and then caused damage inside the headlight housing

The fix for these is quite simple and will be relatively quick as well. The wires will be long enough so that the power supply can still be hidden, and no modifications will be needed to your headlight, the headlight housing, or the car. These will remain 100% plug and play.

I wish this had never happened, but unfortunately we are taking responsibility for it and issuing this recall to prevent other issues.

As some people mention, they aren't experiencing any problems. Out of about 500 power supplies currently out there, only 2 have had issues, so by No Means, is this something major and it doesnt reflect on the quality of the product as well.

This recall is just to Prevent any issues, nothing more then that. So i highly discourage you from returning the product.

nope, its still internal. but it uses a different power supply. the issue is the power supply in all the newer ones are different from MY power supply.

my power supply can remain inside the housing because it doesnt hit up (knock wood)

So the realy box can still be hidden inside of the light housing? Or will we have to re route the relay box to the outside of the housing?

will canadian customers be covered on this free fix, cause the fineprint says only USA gets prepaid shipping...

I dunno, you guys have been very responsive and honest in dealing with my faulty kit, but I am kinda losing my wits now - I know it isnt your fault to say the least, but it is what it is...
I dont mind talking privately via email if you guys can do something for me, but I am just a little ticked...

+1 USA or not, we bought off of North American Motorsports and Canada is part of North America. Why shouldn't we get pre-paid shipping?

So this means that we'll have to drill into our headlight housing?
