I like this thread. I'm living in Seattle currently, where we have Pacific Raceway 40 min, The Ridge 1.5hrs, and possibly sometime soon Circuit of the Northwest 1 hour.

SoCal sounds nice though...

what type of work do you do? could you easily do the same type of work if you moved and make the same money?

my wife an i have 4 vehicles and it was rough finding a place. i park the smart car outside, and the truck is going to be on the side of the house once that rv access gets finished. once you start to weed out houses based on parking, the choices get slim and/or expensive fast.

I'm in the northwest Plano/Frisco area, pretty comfy out here. Lots to do, good schools, rapid growth, close to both airports (I travel a lot for work). It's way less dense up here and there are still ranches scattered around which I kinda like after having lived in downtown Chicago for a decade.

$300-350k gets you a pretty decent house in Frisco. For $500k you'll be living well. I'm planning to buy something within the next year or two and also need a 3 car garage: one spot for the Corvette, one for a truck/daily driver, and one open spot for a future Mrs. to put her car.

Oh, and obviously Texas has no state income tax so you'll basically get a free raise if you move out here. The way I see it, that covered all of my moving costs and now it's just paying for my HPDE stuff. :-)

I'm a Director at an IT consulting company. I work remote when I'm not traveling to clients, so I can technically work from anywhere. Oregon does have a high income tax, so that's part of why I'm slowly thinking about moving.

Ha, same here, technology consulting.

Dallas area is absolutely booming, tons of companies setting up shop here -- Toyota recently moved their US headquarters from CA to a new complex right down the street from me in Plano, for example.

i was having a conversation with a friend yesterday and thought of this thread. we were talking about properties in central california near the sierras. i would personally enjoy a property away from others, because i'm just an introvert, but i like the conveniences of living in a city.
i could 100% retire in a house like this. central to all the california tracks, close to a city, close to the mountains (i like offroading and gold panning). it just checks all boxes for a reasonable price. any nobody has any business being around my house... so i don't have to see or talk to anyone unless i feel like it.

Vegas. Spring Mountain and it's multiple configurations, plus the road course outside the speedway.

Easy (sometimes) drive to Willow Springs, Auto Club speedway, Buttonwillow, the the Phoenix area tracks. Longer, but doable in a day drive to Laguna, Sears Point, Thunderhill. Done them all.

No state income tax. Reasonable property taxes. Decent prices for housing (it peaked earlier last year and has come down a bit since then). An international airport plus gobs and gobs of entertainment. 2-pro teams (soon...). A very nice performing arts center. Medical isn't as good as LA or Dallas, but it's decent for all but the most esoteric of issues.

I lived there for 26 years and now I'm moving back for retirement. Just put the $ down on a new build house.

Lots of tracks within driving distance of NY. NJMP (2 tracks), Limerock park, NYST, Watkins Glen, Palmer, Pocono. I haven't tried most of them so plenty to explore. Taxes are mega and the climate isn't exactly year round driving fun though.

I hate Ohio but I'm less than 8 hours drive from all of this:
Mid Ohio
IMS
Putnam
NCM
VIR
Watkins Glen
Road America
Road Atlanta
Barber

And it's cheap as shit compared to west coast.

Great list. To OP's point, you can't drive those year round -- Nov-April are a no-go.

VIR we run late Nov and early March. Barber, RA are all good to go pretty much year round.

I'll agree with this. My friends who live in Ohio have much better access to tracks than myself living in CT/NY

The most important part of that is they have access to several big boy tracks. VIR, WGI are closeby... now that's worth your time, energy and money.

In NY/CT I'm within 4h of WGI, but other than that I have little go kart stuff like Limerock, Palmer, the couple in NH, etc.

Don't forget, in Ohio there's at least a 50/50 chance whatever track day gets rained out. And mid-ohio is the WORST track ever to drive in the rain- most people just pack up and go home.

Also, there's Nelson Ledges up in the NE corner, that used to be super cheap but has been creeping up past $200+/day since it got repaved.

Also, think I saw you again at norpca couple weeks back.

Yeah Mid-Ohio in the rain sucks. I was at NORPCA, we've been having a terrible rain season this spring.

Pitt Race is interesting now that it's bigger, it's 3rd in my list after WGI and VIR
