M3 GTS Flash Clarifications?
I was hoping to get some insight on the GTS flash process from some people that have done it to their car or understand the process pretty well. I've used WINKFP a few times on N55's doing the PPK flash so I understand the process of choosing the ECU and ZB number and flashing. The only thing I am a bit confused on from reading all the DIY's online is how people #1 choose the ECU and #2 choose the correct ZB number. From everything I've seen online, everyone choose GS40 in WINKFP for their ecu. If I go to inpa and choose Identification, my EGS is DKG_90 which I'm guessing shows up for all DCT M3's from years 2008-2013. Will GS40 always be the ECU to choose for DKG_90 cars? My next question is the next step in the process which is choosing the ZB number. Now I'm guessing this changes depending on the daten files, at least it did with the PPK Flash, but from what I was reading online, my DKG_90 part number which is 7844978 can be different for different GS40 TCU's which is confusing to me. Since there can be different part numbers which would correspond to different ZB numbers, does that mean I'd have to choose a different ZB number for specific DCT m3's? If so, how can I determine this. I am running Bimmergeeks v60.1 Daten files.

All I know is the common number ZB number for GTS is this:
7845773 I help ItsGary remotely code his 09 E90. Ensure Fast Baud Rate is enabled since it's slow as hell without it. The instructions we used were here: ##Instructions on GTS Tune -Make sure your battery is good if not get a battery charge -Open drivers door and turn ignition ON (cluster guage on) -connect cable to obd connector of car -Load Winkpf software -Press (F1) comfort mode -Press (F3) Update ZUSB -Choose ECU GS40 -Press (F2) Choose ZUSB -Choose ECU GS40 and next to it there will be ZB-Numbers..Find 7845773 -Click ok -If you have done it correctly so far you will see at the top Assembly Identification number 7845773 (M3 GTS assembly line file) and it will automatically reference the software 7845773 -Press (F4) Enter VIN ( make sure you double check you have entered the correct VIN numbers) -click ok -Press DONE (F8) -Press (F3) Program -Pop up window will say you can code the ECU 63 more times, click ok -Flashing begins and you will have to wait till it reaches 100% -once it reaches 100% it will pop up again saying you have 62 more times to program the ECU, click ok -Programming again starts, wait until this reaches 100%* -If everything is done correctly, then you will get a pop up screen saying programming done, click ok

Edit: after more searching I think the only 2 ZB numbers for GTS flash is 7845773 which you listed above and 7848442. Not sure if that's a newer one but figured someone can chime in and let me know or anyone else wondering as well if the ZB number is always 7845773 for the e9x GTS flash. |

I expanded the GS40.dat file
You can match your friend's HW # by looking that up in INPA and confirming it matches on the list. Either ZB number you listed matches the same HW-NR. Code:

GS40 is the ECU you are flashing to inside the GS40 are the different software numbers and assembly line numbers. this is in the nfs\data folder 10FLASH.PRG is the PRG file kinda like IPO files, i think this handles some sort of protocol. this is in the edbiabas\ecu folder what i usually do is start WinKFP (F1) Comfort mode (F3) Update ZUSB >choose GS40 (F2) Choose ZUSB >choose GS40 >>choose a ZB# from what i know is that these ZB# will work 7848442 new GTS DCT 7845773 old GTS DCT these i think are the latest ZB# for the stock EU and US DCT's 7847869 7847868 (F4) Enter VIN- this will be optional, and only clickable if UIF writes are enabled (F8) Done (F3) Program, popup will show up, showing how many more writes you have, only works if UIF write is enabled AFAIK. it will program and make sure wait until it shows "programming ok" as far as the HW-NR. i have flashed the 7845773 ZB# on a MY 08 car, the HW-NR of that car is 7642021, still worked fine Make sure to have the car connected to a stable power source. |

Update Incase anyone is wondering:
I successfully flashed my car with ZB number 7845773. Flash went great no error codes. I then wanted to flash to stock transmission tune for educational purposes. I flashed with ZB number 7847869. Car went back to stock settings. The reason I flashed and unflashed was just to understand the process better Incase I ever wanted to flash back to stock or put someone else's car back to stock. If anyone needs the flash done in San Diego feel free to PM me! |

did you have to check if the latest ecu software on the car is compatible with that version if the gts tune first?
my car has violent shuddered and stalled the engine. I found a few other threads that also lead to a GTS flash, but not sure why it's happening to some people, but not all. |

You guys seem to be very technical in this area. Have you ever had issues with a 2011 e9x (I have an e90) DCT GTS flash on a DME 240 version?
What happened to me was that my transmission would violently jerk and go front and back, then the engine will cut or stall. I had codes come back: 279A 54AA 2B13 I have been getting increase discharges warning message here and there, so my dealer thought it may have been a battery issue. The car has 15,000 miles - very low. |

I just got a new battery - installing it now! I took off the GTS flash because of the insanely scary violent stall from the transmission. |
