I am really getting put off by the orange appearance in the headlight assembly when looking at the car head on and lights off. The amber doesn't bother me at all when lights are on and illuminated.

There seem to be a few options out there. One is to switch to an OEM silver/chrome type bulb used in the E70 X5. The pro's are OEM finish and function, no codes but the con is that there still may be some egg yolk noted as the silver coating isn't getting rid of the amber look of the bulb entirely.

The other option is LED which will completely get rid of any yolk look as it's main pro but the cons are unknowns like fit/finish/longevity.

A third option is finding some off brand chrome bulb like the attached video but I have no clue where to find something like that.

I wanted to ask if any of you have changed the corner bulb to something like the X5 bulb or LED and what your thoughts were. In either case I want to retain OEM amber color when illuminating. I have tried searching but most posts are dated and the photo links have gone dead.

This is what I was considering also but have heard the paint can flake off and ruin the headlight. How long has yours held up? And what type paint did you get?

Would you happen to have any photos?

Was looking at these for LED https://topgearsolutions.com/hpb-bmw...signals-amber/

This is what I used, I just did a light coat I've had it done for probably a full year now I'll check on them and see how they look when I get some time. The post I made right before this should have the picture of the car let me know if it didn't upload right and I'll try again.

I purchased a set from them for my old 335i. Worked great. I see they haven't dropped their prices tho! That was 10 years ago!

I'm thinking I might go with them since there is some forum presence and warranty. Those others on amazon scare me haha.

This mod stressing me out!

The paint pic loaded it not the car image. Thanks for the input!

I'm using an LED bulb that I purchased from eBay similar to the one you posted above. Been using it since Nov 2018 without issues. I did code them and currently they function to come on while signaling only.

Thanks for sharing! I don't think I'll necessarily code them off. But debated that as well.

I'm guessing when the lights are off and you look head on you don't see any orange egg yolk?

I've been using these in my E92 and other BMWs for the last few years with great success. They're incredibly bright, and I love the LED blink rate vs. the lazy halogen fading in/out.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/AUXITO-BAU1...e/303211286033

Simply code out the error checks in your NFRM.

Only the ever-so-slightest egg-yolk effect from certain angles:

I replaced mine w/ the OEM bulbs you mention (part #63217161306) I am incredibly pleased with them and love the OEM fit, finish, and function. The egg yolk look is 90% removed, I would not change a thing. I have before and after photos in the link below.

Wow that's a lot better than I thought. Maybe I'll try that route first. Thank you!

Also need to do that I drive ring update.

Ya I would recommend it. Couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

The iDrive ring replacement was pretty straightforward. There's a DIY thread floating around. Just some pry tools and some plastic clips.

The biggest advantage the OEM egg yolk removal bulbs have is that they aren't really any dimmer than the standard amber bulb. As soon as you try to apply paint (even a thin coating) over the amber bulb, they will look noticeably dimmer.

I tried a single light coat of silver paint and the drop in brightness next to the headlamps was significant.

Yea I think applying a paint is the least likely option. For that reason and potential flaking down the road.

Leaning towards the X5 silver option then if I don't like that will have to go LED and coding

Not to thread jack but, what parameter did you change to get rid of the amber LED in the top Corner? I've successfully coded out the turn signal bulb but can't seem to find the little led
