OEM Wireless Charging Cradle

I have recently installed the Induktiv kit which I can highly recommend, but the removal of the cigarette lighter has one downfall that I would like to rectify.

A tidy and painless option for a second charger.

I was doing some reading and found this part number on real OEM 84106840126 and available here

I was looking at the connectors and they look very very similar to the connectors for the phone cradle which are located under the handbrake lever.

The part itself is not as cheap as the induktiv kit but it would be a nice option for a 2nd charger in the centre console.

would removing the phone cradle in the centre console and replacing it with this OEM wireless charger work without requiring any coding?

in theory it only needs to be powered and not send or receive any data signal but i am unsure what the effect of not reocnnecting all of pins for the oem e92 phone cradle would be

I am a complete cave man when it comes to anything even remotely coding related and would appreciate some input on what might be a quite useful upgrade!

Cheers!!

I have done this retrofit- and its great. You just need the phone snapin adapter trim piece and the wireless charging cradle. Plugs straight in under the handbrake, and requires no coding. Fits my iphone 12 pro perfectly.

Do be aware that some large phones like the iphone 12 pro max will not fit in it. The cradle was designed in the late 2000s, and nobody anticipated phones would get that large then.

I've seen folks 3D Print a new bracket to fit larger phones.

I don't love this approach, if you really need to regularly charge 2 phones the center console isn't super accessible. (I carry a separate phone for work, but I always need to interact with it, so I keep it plugged into a dedicated cable).

I know when I had my F30 I think that people were having overheating issues with the in-console chargers too. No airflow wasn't helpful and some of the older snap ins had a build in fan.

I'm really happy with the Induktiv from a form factor perspective, easy to access, easy to drop in, and works better than my new G05 where the phone is "tucked" under the console and harder to get out. I just wish it had a higher charging amperage.

Definitely has its caveats. It seems to be fine with my wife's F87 cradle and not overheat.

I don't see this as an issue. You shouldn't be touching your phone in any manner while driving, so keeping the phone inaccessible seems like an excellent safety bonus.

Also regarding the temperature in the center console, I find it stays exceptionally cool in there, to the point when I left a phone in there before I got the cradle, it was cold to the touch.

Sure. Keep in mind, I see you are from Australia, dont know if there are any center console differences with RHD vs LHD. Anyway here are the part numbers I used for my car which is a LHD E92:

Snap In Adapter Trim:
51167118054
https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...im-51167118054

Wireless Charging Shelf:
84102449887
https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...lf-84102449887

They took a long time to arrive, as I don't think the wireless shelf was ever sold in the US market. Had to be sent from Germany.

Thank you for that!

Yes I think there will be a difference for some trims but that should be easy enough to work out from a parts diagram!

Concur on the Induktiv product, good solution especially fora 'CarPlay' config. Install is simple and clean.

Agree an increased charge amp rate would be great, although adequate for my iPhone 12 Pro.

Just an update on this, because i hate finding threads that get 90% of the answer i need.
yes this works.

2012 E92, that had a car cradle previously.

Had to pull out rear seats and rear centre console to get to a pesky connector that isnt in any of the videos or threads elsewhere, unsure what it was that I disconnected, but it was connected to the old car cradle base.

absolute bugger of a job

no issues to speak of with other OEM functions.

Car now has 2x wireless chargers! very happy with both.
