That smooth black plastic immediately upstream of what you have pointed out in the marked photo is part of the oil separator. You won’t know for sure until you pull the plenum but that’s the area we’ve had leaks from as I described. That particular part of the oil separator is sealed by an o ring rather than the gasket. They definitely fail.

Been giving the ole' girl some love lately.

Replaced the fuel breather valve to fix a sporadic lumpy idle.... then things quickly escalated into new throttle actuators (FCP kit) and an Eventuri plenum (IND, matte finish).

The actuators were only showing initial signs of wear at 60k miles. Figured I may as well replace on my own schedule so no regrets swapping them. And took advantage of the Memorial Day sale at IND for the plenum.

Not exactly scientific/quantitative, but I compressed the strut to full, then put a tape measure next to it and measured how long it took to go up. The front struts (EDC, btw) took about 5 seconds to move 1 inch/25mm. Since I didn't have a comparison to typical, I asked my shop if this is expected. The manager effectively told me the struts are done. This shop runs spec BMW race cars and even dropped a full P65 race engine into a local E92, so I tend to trust their expertise. Took the E92 M3 on its first road trip to Lake Como, Italy and attended the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Went to visit Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani afterwards and back up towards Lake Garda, Italy. 2500km of amazing driving experience. It seriously is one of the best road trip cars.

No experience from these shocks but was under the impression that they are filled with fluid only (e.g. not gas etc). As such I wouldn't expect any rebounce at all, thought that was the springs job, no?
Btw 50k miles seems very low to crap the original shocks, been reading about much longer mileage where it still was okay. Obviously depending on useage.

Gave her a quick bath to rid the summer bugs. The only plus for these small brakes is I can get my hands all the way thru the barrels to give them a good wipe down

Can you share where you got those boots? I’ve got some that are distorted, planning to use a heat gun on them but those look nice!

They have other things for our cars there like an oil catch can, inline fuel filter kit, replacement aluminium valve covers, and a few more things as well if you look at the products page.

Getting ready for a summer of track driving, I installed the EAE power steering reservoir. It’s a fine design and is supposed to prevent overflow. One of my hydraulic hoses was cut too short from the factory and I couldn’t get it over the nipple. I went to the hardware store to get myself a few extra inches of hose to work with.

What happens if you use 150 PSI rated Goodyear heater hose instead of hydraulic hose? Asking for a friend.

Can't see a problem there, the system is atmospheric, is not meant to build pressure.

Replaced my valve covers over the weekend with ones from NRW. Also replaced all the seals and o-rings that sit on top, and changed the valve timing cover gasket since I had those on hand from last time I changed the valve gaskets.

The condition of my old covers were shocking, the paint was flaking both on top, underneath the cover (onto the valve train) and in the gasket channel. So I was leaking a bit of oil over my exhaust manifold and breathing that not so wonderful smell through the aircon. The fitment of the NRW covers is amazing, glad I went with them over cheaper aluminium alternatives.

Led the drive group A for Highlands Motoring Festival's 'One Lap of the Mountains' driving tours. It was a 180-mile lap of the beautiful mountains of western NC. The group consisted of twenty-five cars- mostly Porsches.
