I guess I am going to have to read up on that. It just seems pointless I bought apparently one of the best radar detectors on the market and I get a ticket within 24 hours. First shot. That is some honkey bs.

radar detectors are good at detecting radar, but when you get popped with laser, it's already too late. that's why you need a laser jammer, too! i have a 9500, i love it. FUCK a v1...there, i said it! v1 is a fanboi's radar detector. 9500's are just as good as far as sensitivity, but much quieter with gps false signal blocking. that, in itself, is priceless to me.

oh btw, more pics of avatar chick or ban.

That sucks...sorry to hear. I don't know what cop you're talking about on Allen Parkway but I assume coming out of downtown. I go the other way on Allen Parkway (coming from Kirby) on the way home so I'll keep my eyes out anyway in case he changes spots.

Tonight on the way home I saw a guy in a G37 coupe get popped when he was pretty much right next to me on San Felipe. He had been driving like an a**hole...sped past me and then had to slow down when the car in front of him turned, then he sped past me again and all of the sudden I saw him and the car that was directly in front of me slam on their brakes for a guy standing in the road. It was a cop standing there with radar/laser gun in hand, his car parked hidden in the neighborhood, waving the G37 guy in. Now I've gotta watch out there because the speed limit is only 30!!

G35/37 drivers are consistently the worst drivers on the road. they all think they bought a fucking rocket ship and it's better than every car out there. i've been antagonized more G drivers than ANY other car type, including mustangs.

on another note, the only ticket i ever got during my 2 year houston tenure was on i-10 eastbound before washington. i saw HPD running radar there so many times, but i guess it didn't register at the time i got the ticket cause he was there waiting on me!

Actually this was HPD. In the neighborhood on San Felipe about 1/2-1 mile east of Weslayan. I've been going home that way for months and this was the first time I've seen them there. Will definitely be looking now!

Agreed...

And yes, they definitely run radar on that part of I-10 all the time!

Yea, I live in that neighborhood and have become accustomed to all their hiding spots around the area. Kirby and Avalon, San Felipe and Bellmeade (at the bend), San Felipe and the RR tracks, Inwood and Chilton (at the stop sign) Shepherd and Westheimer and last but not least the damn constables that camp out just down the street from my driveway at Kirby and Lazy Lane. There have been multiple times where I have seen at least 4 Constables (1 on each corner) of that intersection. Just FYI in case anyone here is rolling hot through the the Oaks.

Wow someone is in a bad mood... I didnt say anything about how crappy escort is...

Like how my 8500 was worthless. Not bc the radar wasnt good but bc it just crapped out after a while. 3 different models...

Why are you trying to start a radar detector war? I just said I got one for Christmas. Not F everyone that has an escort...

Gotchya. Ya I agree its really noisy but like I said. After going through 3 8500s bc they kept breaking I just figured Id go to the dark side and see about that one. Who knows... I may end up coming back to a 9500. I just didnt want to buy ANOTHER detector and it break on me.

You cant ride around confidantely with a radar detector if you think it might not even be working.

it's strange that you've went thru 3. i had a 8500 for years without issue and i've had my 9500 for at least 3 years now without any issues except having to send it in to get the clip mount redone. over the hot summers, the plastic inside the detector would heat up and wear down easier, causing the detector to fall off the suction cup bracket. other than that, it's been a great detector.

Depends on the conditons. When the highways here open up its great. I live downtown and there have been plenty of times hauling A$$ back home that it saved me. They like to just cruise around Dallas with it on. For some reason they dont laser all that much here. (knock on wood)

Ya. I dont know what the deal was. But it put a bad taste in my mouth so I tried something else. Like i said. Not biased either way but now I can start shaping a more informed decision of the two brands. I would have no problems going back to escort again if need be.

Ok so it looks like I'm going to go with:

19" V710s staggered
textured black powdercoat
Hankook V12s
245/35 fronts
285/30 rears
H&R sport springs

I wavered on solar black. My personal opinion from the pics was that it was kinda shiny. I like more of the matte look. I could be wrong bc all i had to go off of was pics. So speak now if you have any words of wisdom for me (especially Houston people who have seen the solar wheels) or forever hold your peace. Ive got my fingers crossed that the tires wont rub

WTF! Blake or Tom, help me out with this one. I ask you two because you have the same RD. I was driving home for lunch today going down Kirby and I see a cop who had someone pulled over. His lights were on and I clearly saw him from a distance, maybe 200 yards; however, the RD did not go off until I was about 50 yards from him. That is obviously waayy too late. Are there settings for the distance on the 9500ix or something because I cannot imagine that is the maximum range?

I cannot speak on the rubbing issue. This is just not my area of expertise. However, I do agree with the choice of matte black V710s. I would say solar if you had a black e92, but I think the matte looks better on AW. And the drop from the springs is a must. Case in point below. 335 dropped vs M3 stock.

most of the time, cops radar automatically shut off when he's already fucked someone. he'll lock the offender's speed on his display then turn off the radar. nothing to worry about, it's normal.

Ya the springs are sitting in the garage as we speak. PYSpeed told me that the textured black is the solar black with texture but I think that the texture takes away some shine.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...highlight=v713

This is the best example of textured black Ive found.

Now my biggest problem is getting a hold of Nawaaz's installer Jerry. We spoke a few weeks ago through PM and he said hed do the install but I have PMed him a couple times and I havent heard back. I dont have a number or the name of the shop.

The solar black V710s on Frank's car look sweet. IMO, it's a very subtle difference from matte black, but a nice one. At times, matte black wheels just seem dirty (not clean). The solar black look almost exactly like matte black, but have just enough reflectivity or shine to keep them from looking like dirty black wheels. I really don't think you can go wrong either way though -- both will look great.

Neither fronts or rears will rub with the setup you suggested.

Kyle, it sounds like the radar detector wasn't actually on until you were 50 yards away. If it had been, the RD definitely would have caught it. Was the officer in the car when you passed him? If so, you have nothing to worry about.

I really like that textured black. That's the winner in my book.
