Be aware it's pretty much a switch, the complete opposite of the stock clutch. And it's a solid flywheel so you'll have gear rattle at idle. Sounds like a sequential on the track with the CAE shifter though, datalogger shows 200-250ms shift time.

Trying to figure out what I need to torque the side mount-seat bolts to. What numbers did you guys use, and should I use loctite?

so i have been looking at roof racks for my car. i acquired oem mounts and crossbars, but i have been looking at baskets to put a few tires in for the track. reason for this, is i'm almost 6'04" and having four tires in the rear seat forces me to move my seat up a bit and it is uncomfortable, especially for the long trips up to laguna seca.
i'm looking at aluminum baskets, because weight is a concern. they are somewhat pricey, and not quite in a usable dimension for hauling wheels. in talking to my friend that built my desert truck, he is confident that he can build a suitable aluminum rack, just for hauling wheels. my goal is to fit three wheels on the rack. i'm thinking it will either be a triangle design (one wheel up front, two wheels behind), or a slim rack, holding three wheels in a line. my only concern with three wheels in a line, is weight distribution. i don't want the weight to shift when braking and put too much stress on any of the forward or rear mounting points, so it is probably going to depend on the spread of the mounting points and how long the rack would have to be.

i saw a picture of a car with five wheels in a line on a car, but that grossly exceeds the weight limit of the oem rack.

if anyone has any ideas, feel free to add any ideas or feedback. i'll post pics of the progress.

i initially thought of a hitch, but my main concern would be where it would mount without adding too much weight that can't easily be removed.
second, i wouldn't be able to park in any normal parking spot. this normally wouldn't be an issue, but when i go to laguna seca, i like to make a mini vacation out of it and stay in carmel for about 3-4 days. this is a minor consideration, but could be a pain in the ass nonetheless.
lastly, don't want to deal with wiring (lighting), plating, and registering a trailer. i don't have a ton of room for one, either.

eventually, i'll have a truck or suv and have an actual trailer for my car/desert truck, but i don't have room at this time.

Do your seats fold down? Perhaps you can get the 4 tires in a different way where you don't have to push the driver seat up as far. For longer trips I used to take everything in my car, my new goal is to take wheels and parts and borrow tools. ie. 2nd set of wheels, brake pads, oil, brake fluid, etc. Stuff that's harder to source.

I will still take my torque wrench and air gauge/compressor as those are relatively small and I always use them.

Baskets are about $200 plus after mounting brackets and I'll still have to rig something up to secure tires. Aluminum baskets are about $400. I'd bet that a steel basket with even three tires would be exceeding the recommended weight limit for our cars. Plus, if I have to stand the tires up the aerodynamics would be a disaster. I know the aerodynamics aren't going to be good with the roof rack but if the tires are on their side, it's less than half the profile of the tire standing up.

My rear seats do fold-down but I'm not sure if that would be ideal I think stacking the tires on their sides would still be tall enough to force me to put my seat more forward. I have been contemplating getting rid of the rear seat though. That might allow the tires to sit further back.

Have you considered doing a rear seat delete? Deleting rears on my E46 allowed me to put a set of wheels in the back and still see out of the rear window. Overall drop in height was probably 5-6 in. (lower center of gravity too!).

Lol, I feel like I'm pretty much bringing my whole garage with me every time I do a full weekend.

Lol I have to pack the car because I have to carefully put things in the trunk in a particular order so two tool cases, two chairs, paper towels, a jack, caliper spreader, pads, and tires fit. For Laguna Seca, I have to fit luggage for two as well. The way I stack the chairs has an effect on if the trunk will close or not. It's that tight.

Have you considered a roof rack/luggage rack to hold your other stuff, thus making room for tires in the car?

Bruh, this is pretty much my whole garage stuffed into my car, and I'm not even using the correct chair in this photo. Also have a full low-profile HF jack in there; didn't have a race jack at the time lol. I also utilize the floor behind the front seats. If you lie the two top wheels face down, you can also put some stuff on the wheels.

I forgot some of the most important things: small cooler, ice, water. I have a soft-sided Polar Bear Cooler which helps but I end up bringing a small hard sided cooler most of the time anyway. All the stuff really does add up, especially if you are bringing jacks/jack-stands, tools, etc. I also used to bring a canopy and 4+ chairs for friends (when I had a sedan and wasn't bringing wheels).

Yeah, definitely. I steal garages now, so no need for a canopy. I haven't had any issues stuffing shit into my car. Being an organized/OCD type persons also helps with packing.

Only one wheel fits in the trunk, and the awkward shape wastes a lot of space around it. I like that thinking though.

Speaking of stuff to bring. I just bought a knee pad for changing brakes/tires. Sounds dumb, but it's awesome. Soft on top, and thick on the bottom. Pretty cheap on amazon, too.
