a lot of people pull the hoses off for driving on the street for obvious reasons. One of those "if you're going to be in there changing wheels, pads etc. anyway, the extra time is negligible" things. But you probably won't die. Except for air getting on the FACE of the rotor, that is, that'll definitely cause you to die

The lowest-cost brake cooling upgrade is probably control-arm mounted scoops. The next lowest cost is like 10X more expensive

Thank you Porsche for putting control-arm scoops on nearly every car including the SUV's so we have plenty of cheap pre-made options to choose from lol

If the rotors are drilled, does it make it less critical face vs hat cooling?

Well based on the functional design of the rotor, being drilled makes no difference to the issue here. It's like trying to blow air into a hole where air is supposed to come out. Don't be nasty.

The backing plates I'm using actually direct air to the inner hat, if you look closely in the picture you can see that. I took it into consideration before buying them.

We shall see if they help; I have to imagine they will make a difference. I was using the GT3 Porsche winglets before and it helped and this is about 100x more precise than those. And if not, I will still imagine they help. #Eek

My apologies for being thick.
I don't understand the "inner hub" thing.
Where is the air directed if not to the face of the disk?

The inner cooling vanes where the air should go. That's the most efficient cooling method. Cooling one side of the face could lead to uneven cooling and premature cracking.

Does the Hard different because of the ring and that goes over the rotor?

The rotor acts like a turbine. It draws air in from the backside center (inner hat) and that air blows out the end of the radius/cooling vanes. It's designed to cool from the inside out.

People still using drilled rotors on track. Eek…

Depends on how it sits against the rotor.

Had a very successful weekend at VIR for Hyperfest/Nasa. I crushed my pb by over 3 seconds and took home 1st place Sat and Sun in TT3.

Best lap was a 2.01.470

What do you attribute to the 3 second jump in pb? That's huge.

My previous best was a 2.04.90 on 295/30/18 Toyo RR's and an OEM GT4 rear wing.

I changed out to a 70" Nine Lives Racing Wing swan neck setup and added some fender vents. My best on Thursday (open track time) was a 2.03.50 still on Toyo RR's.

Saturday I switched out to Hoosier R7's for the first time. During the first timed session I ran a 2.02.64. I wasn't able to improve any more that day as it only got hotter or slower on the track.

Sunday morning the track felt great and the air was cool. During the first session of the day I got the car down to a 2.01.47

The aero let me improve a ton on the mid/higher speed areas and the Hoosiers just improved grip all over the place. It really allowed me to push the lower speed turns without having the front end push a ton.

Curious on the choice of R7's vs A7's in TT3 where the A is dominant? Wear issue? Learning the tire issue? Both? Just curious, always interested in how people come about their tire choices.
Congrats on the win and PB!

I went R7 because I enjoy the seat time and run every bit of the session. My best laps always come towards the end of a session so the R7 fits me better.

LOL I've been the same way...somehow my fastest laps are towards the end of the day! My coach always laughs and just says "imagine if you could run with that pace on your first session on Sunday".

I think based on that experience with the R7 you'd be able to bolt on another 0.8-1.0 on the A7. Keep that in your back pocket for when somebody wants to time attack for pink slips

I did one session on A7's, I took a set out for kayha12 to scrub them in but didn't really push hard

You can run the full session on an A7, just drive to the traction you have. It's not like the tire will explode after four laps, you'll just be 2-3s off pace. If anything, good practice for driving on a less-than-ideal setup!
