From the BMW website ! Which is most definitely more accurate than a news site.

Most other reviews also state it’s 550L.

I imagine usnews just did a bad conversion from litres to cubit feet .

I also used to own one and it most definitely was not 800 odd litres of space with the seats up

The BMW quoted value is 550 litres with the luggage cover in place (i.e. boot capacity), the 813 litres / 28.7 cuft is "behind the rear seat", i.e. up to the roof with the luggage compartment cover removed.

I should thank you for this information actually, never found out what the Z stood for till now.

Although, I believe for many of us in our hearts and minds it shall stay as ‘Zee’ as it is, simply put, way more hilarious

Any word on the Manual Z4? When can we see official announcements, or is it cancelled?

Go to the Z4 G29 forum and do a search. There have been a few threads concerning the 6MT Z4.

Trust me, we have a bunch of MT junkies in that forum who will be the first to know.

Don't expect any serious upgrades to S58. Just think how little time is left until it's retired.

That may be the plan but I have my doubts as to whether or not it will really be retired as soon as people think. But I agree there’s not much logic to spending a lot of resources upgrading it.

Do you have your doubts as to whether or not BMW executives are telling the truth?

No. But I think the truth today and the truth in the future aren’t always the same. I have been honest on many occasions and been wrong. Variables change, strategy shifts. The world is always adjusting course somewhere.

I’m certainly not calling your honesty or theirs into question.

Expecting the shift to EVs to reverse is unrealistic.

I don’t expect a reversal really. Just a pause at some point, of sorts. Longer transition than planned. That’s why I said I agreed it wouldn’t make sense to spend resources improving ICE engines. I don’t see any reversal.

And hey, I’ve been wrong before! So I can easily be wrong now!

2024 is near. But to me, there are still 11 years left to enjoy with a combustion engine, at least here in EU. I know that by 2030 a combustion engine will be rare as a colored diamond, but...it's not the end 'till the end.

The car manufacturers in EU are already negotiating an extension of the 2030 rule and they are poking holes in it. While the EU regulators seem to be unwavering at this time on ICE ban, the current EU parliament has 2 full election cycles away from 2030. A lot can happen.

Having said that, even if an extension can be granted, I don't think EU car makers will use the time to build a new engine or create new variants. All BMW has to do is add boost and that can be done with software.

Precisely. It’s not about new R&D. Just extension of current tech. Which is pretty damn good. The track record of the current B58 seems pretty damn solid with tons of room to add power via software. Just look at all the tunes available.

2030 is a long way off for the people making policy. Problems aren’t problems for them until it’s on the doorstep. The only reasons they ever take proactive approaches to policy are for headlines, goodwill, and ultimately votes and dollars. Which is where the 2030 policy and similar policies have come from.
