Crydaddy did you do it exactly like our new best friend Perio or did you try a diffferent technique. I mean did you do just one side or cover different holes?
Please elaborate. Thanks

Hey Guys,
I was wondering who you are having doing the welding on the exhaust. My local muffler shop said they cant work on Stainless Steel and thats what the muffler is made of and that it will be very hard to find a shop that can help with welding stainless.... First is that true? And if it is where are you guys having this work done? D |

That was my original plan. The top of the can is much narrower and has more of a curve. I am not saying it is not possible to do it from the top but access is much better from the bottom. Cutting and welding is likely easier too.

Sounds good; seems like the modder can decide on how loud to go (there's a range of "loud"); and the lack of drone is fantastic. It has all the things you want in a semi-DIY mod: cheap, fairly easy (finding a welder sounds like the toughest piece), and great results.
I really like the fact that pioneers like you and Subw00wer blazed the way on the exhaust front. Lots of folks want to kick up the sound of the the exhaust a bit, but really don't want drone (Helmholtz chambers are key), and more importantly don't want to spend an outrageous sum on an exhaust. This option hits on all the key requirements! Nice work guys--this is the forum/community at its best! (Same can be said of PG and Mixja on the Virtual Dyno....) I think this needs it's own DIY thread at some point. Don't get me wrong--this is a great thread itself but it would be nice to have just the step-by-step instructions/tips/photos w/o some of the additional chat (like my post here ). |

~ 6 hours. had to run to local welder, auto parts to get materials. hardest part was to put exhaust back on. i was all alone to do it without a lift. that sunofawich is really heavy. had to cradle it with my legs to insert the pipe.

Those tips are nice but I rather not have the magnaflow name on them. I am not sure if they all have that. Also, they are a bit pricey. Four tips could cost me as much has the whole project.

I have purchased these tips for as cheap as $20 for past projects, just have to shop around. The MagnaFlow logo can be removed if turning them to face down is not acceptable. Stainless steel tips won't be cheap, but sometimes deals can be found.

These guys make all sorts of tips. A friend of mine used them on his GTI and they look great.
