Nice day here with low wind. I took advantage and stretched it out to 50 miles.

Spent the bulk of the winter riding the single speed which is also code for cycling to pubs around the city.
But, also was tweaking the geared bike to be a little more comfortable for long rides. Finally got it for a short ride last night. New shoes, new seat and ditched my clips for a set of MB pedals, I doubt my group is going to notice the .2 mph performance loss I'm losing on my upstroke. The little State Undefeated bike is way more mellow now but still can get into the twenties as long as I can keep it there.

Looks like several days of good riding weather this week. Started out with 33 miles today.

I only got 30 miles in last week, but the week before I got my usual 100 miles for the week. My brother is staying with us now for a few weeks and we have big plans for several projects, so riding is going to be minimal if it happens at all.

We got a bit over 23 miles booked on Saturday. Took in some of the storm damage from Thursdays storm that tore through the Houston area. Hard to believe only 7 people lost their lives in that melee.

21 miles, great ride. First longer ride of the year. I usually max out in the 20-25 mile range.
Weather was perfect - started in the low 60s and overcast after some rain. Finished ~2 hours later in the mid 60s with some sun. Light wind in one direction. Saw an active osprey nest, some big turkeys and a hawk. It was a nice day to be outside in the fresh air. The trail I ride is pretty good - mostly smooth paved surface, mostly flat and straight. |

Set out for a 30 miler today and got 3.8 miles from the car when the rear tire went flat. I changed the inner tube and discovered my CO2 inflator would not work. Luckily another rider came by with a working inflator and saved my butt. I wasn't comfortable with my tire repair and the spare inner tube I used was 18 months old, so I just rode back to the car and went to the bike shop to have them put in a new tube and refresh my repair kit. The weather was perfect today, but the cicadas were a serious pain. I got pelted in the face four times in the first mile, so ending the ride earlier wasn't all bad.

What amazed me was how fast and easy it was for the mechanic at the LBS to change out the inner tube. No tools, just his hands, and standing up. It's like the tire just come off the rim easy for him. He swapped out the inner tube and pushed the tire back into place, then filled it with air. Maybe 4 or 5 minutes of work. It took me about 30 minutes to get to the point where I could inflate it.
He showed me a couple of tricks to make it easier next time, but I think at the heart of it is practice, practice, practice.

I managed to get a 30 mile ride in today. Pretty windy, but otherwise a nice day.
