Yeah, I know it remembers only D mode, but not for S mode. It only defaults to S3 for us in America. I wish it did the same for both. Damn you BMW...hire some programmer to get this done...like yesterday.

Really the interface for all of the M Drive features are screwed up. All are accessible through iDrive, some through key dependent and some others through buttons. They should have made all settings key dependent (now only Power (i.e. throttle), EDC and shift lights are). They also should have provided transmission tunnel buttons for all (Servotronic and DSC=M mode are missing). Part of this was their way of luring/forcing folks to buy the Technology Package to get the increased customizations of DCS = M Dynamic mode, Power = Sport Plus and the Servotronic adjustments.

But now with my DCT working so beautifully I have a lot less to complain about so I digress...

I would like to have the stereo controls on its own stalk below the wiper stalk as in my wifes Peugeot...that would make more space on the steering wheel for the drivelogic setting button preferably split into two with separate buttons for setting the upshift mode and downshift mode.

Just got the update done... Took 5 days! It seems that the first attempt didn't take, so they had to reset everything and do it again.

So far, it seems like the lag issues are about 90% gone. It feels like the car is staying in a higher gear when going around corners (3rd or 4th instead of 2nd), but that might be because the computer still has to adjust itself to my driving style. Overall, it geels much better so far, but I'll give a more long-term review later.

Got my update done at Fairfax BMW in NoVA. They had no issues at all with doing it after I explained the problem and told them that my software was way out of date.

I think I'm about two months and 3k miles into my update and the transmission remains a gem. I can't believe this is the same car. I still think BMWNA are sh#$@#ads for not admitting there was a problem, but I love this car now. It's getting a Dinan suspension soon and a special set of wheels. No way am I turning this in at lease end.

Done about 500 miles since the update and brilliant, the DCT has been faultless, no lag what so ever.

In D5 its a monster, soon as you ask for throttle, the power is there downshifting if required and instantanous.

This car is now the way it should have been from the beginning and BMW should be issueing a bulletin to have the update done to keep M£ DCT owners happy and their reputation intact...

Very happy

Happy for you Joe for sure. You persevered and held out to the bitter end. I'm glad you can share the thrill of DCT many of us had already experienced. BMW handled this sooooo poorly. But then again with lawyers running everything in terms of recalls, SIBs, press releases, etc. it all played out about how we should have expected.

Got the car updated 2 days ago with the Alarm activation. I agree with everyone the car is a different one right now it holds the gears more and seem to go faster (may be just a feeling)...I drove where usually I get the lag on my way home from work and so far so good...too bad that BMW took 2 years to come up with this...

Does anyone know the actual version number for the latest DCT software, that will get rid of the lag?
My service advisor doesn't seem to know it - I got my DCT software updated about two months ago, and the lag when downshifting from third to second gear in a slow corner, is maddening!

Thanks!

My car is funny. I have been watching it closely for the past two weeks and I have found that it will remember settings sometimes but most of the time it will return to the default. Here is an example: I was in D4 and stopped for a few minutes and when I started up and toggled the shifter it went directly into D4. But most of the time, no matter how long I stop, when I toggle the shifter the first time it goes into S3 the default. It always remembers what drive program I am in but not the mode. It really does not affect anything it just surprises me sometimes. I have the new software and it drives beautifully. The M button works properly and when I press it the proper modes are selected but the memory logic baffles me. This is the most fun car I have ever owned but when I hit the lottery I am heading down to Ferrari of Beverly Hills to pick up a 599GTB for a little sinful obsessiveness (and to be an ultra badass).

I have just had my car updated to ISTA/P 37.2. While I agree that the DCT is now better than it was in D modes and overall is really good, it is still not the way I want it - which is to be able to have smooth S1 upshifts with blipped S4/S5 downshifts. I cannot understand why they do S1/S2/S3 without blipped downshifts - I have not come across anybody who does not like blipped downshifts.

So I will continue to use S1 and heel and toe for downshifts.

Had the update done yesterday. Interesting story, the car was there for oil service and once again, I asked about the lag and was told that they could not repeat it. (I have Dinan software, which honestly did clear the lag issue up, but I still wanted the newest software.) I went to this thread and found the latest update number, emailed it to my SA and the GM at the dealership. The SA told me that update was for "aggressive driving." The GM, who is a friend said "He drives it like he stole it, do the f'ing update!"

Only done a little around town driving and can't see any difference yet. Again, the Dinan software took care of almost all of it.

Thanks so much to everyone here. Without this information, I wouldn't get half the stuff done that should be done.

I guess we could all stop sending prank messages to our regional service rep's personal e-mail addresses.

Maybe we could re-subscribe to CLUB M-DCT.

not fixed for everyone...

My dealer still refusing to update since I have June/July 09's update.

Anyone in Los Angeles area find a dealer willing to update the software with no hassles? Yes, I drove the car with the foreman as well and he even acknowledged the lag but said it's "normal operation", and said they won't do anything unless BMW releases a new SIB. This is New Century BMW btw.
