I have no clue but 2 day ago, I drove over a construction zone infront of my House and the moment I pulled in the garage, I heard the cow bell sound. Haven't heard it for 5 months prior to this...so I reversed out, drove down the street up to 45mph, and slammed on the brakes. Did this twice to clear out the rocks...drove back Into garage, cow bell noise is gone.

Oh hell's bells it's come back for me today. I pull into the work car park in the best car there and it's making this ridiculous noise. It's so loud!
Guess it's time to buy a jack and whip the wheel off to take a look.

I think I have it too. 500 miles on my new E92. It's very intermittent for now. I had the exact same issue with my E46 M3 too

Can someone get a gb going on an M3 cowbell tee shirt?

well I am in this club as well after letting friend drove a car for like 1-2 miles and he left Ebrake on, it make sound so bad like dragging the tint can down the road, I drove for 40 miles on highway, it went away then came back the next day, I took wheel off and see nothing, I try to re-compress caliper put the wheels back, it went away for bit, but every time I make a right turn it came back, so last night I took the wheels off, bend the brake shield back and wiggle around with Ebrake cable little bit. now the sound completely gone.....*knock on wood*

have the people who consistently hear the sound try slamming on the brakes to see if it goes away? it seems to do the trick for me everytime...clear the rocks out

One fellow ask the other ... why do cows in Austria wear cow bells? ...

he then replied ... Well so they don't fall asleep when they graze

(I know it's slightly off topic ... I just could not help myself)

I had the cowbell noise last month too. 55k miles. Went away next day but revisited once last week. No idea what it was or why it comes and goes.

Must have been a rock and as you go slow it would bonze around so you hear it. As you speed up centrifugal force will keep it on the outer drum diameter ... you might not have heard it in 2 months ... it either got out or is wedged someplace tight.

Word has it that a lot of cars have been damaged by the trucking companies, when they loaded or unloaded the M3s off the truck at too steep of an angle. My source said some BOLTS got sheered-off or damaged due to cars bottoming out.

My car went in today for an unrelated issue. I told my SA about the noise and even sent him the link to this thread. So we will see what he comes back with.

I will keep you guys posted.

Well I just got an email from my SA saying they couldnt reproduce the sound so
I should just bring it back if I hear it again.

I think the dealers think that we are all crazy when we go in there saying we are hearing sounds but then cant reproduce them.

no surprise really....our cars only make abnormal sounds outside of the dealership...when its there, it behaves itself...but thanks for the update...let us know if you hear the sound when u get home in your garage...
