This topic has been addressed in here before, but the reason why we choose the WPC treated route is to stick with OEM tolerances just having a stronger treatment on their surface. The BE's can be done here too. If we have customers request them, we'll put them in. There is lots of information and statistics out on the BE's which is great, but the tolerance changes at full operating temperature is just an aspect that is so hard to measure.

I bet %95 of M3 drivers out there that doesn't know about this problem (non-forum members) really enjoy driving this car without thinking..

We've had original owner customers come in with over 100k miles on the cars and never heard of rod bearings. Clearly they made it that long with no issues. It's tough to say, there's no givens or guarantees. Maybe most of these cars would've been good until 100,000 miles? The problem is we don't know until it is too late.

Customer complaint of a knocking sound coming from the engine, so they had the car towed in. Metallic content in the oil filter and the housing. Cylinder 4 spun and 8 was on its way.

Well considering the amount of metallic content throughout, it would need to be completely broken down and cleaned. The crank needs to be replaced due to the scoring on it, and who knows what else may be lurking in tighter tolerance areas deeper inside. It is suggested to replace the motor for time savings and cost effectiveness rather than rebuilding this one.

Not sure what happened to this motor for it to get to this point, this happened before current owner. Still turned over, but very gnarly...clearly

No problem. We realistically need a day and a half on the car. One overnight stay to complete the work, however, we prefer to have it dead cold to start working on so we tend to have customers leave it the night before, so figure 2 nights without the car.
