Nobody necessarily said you "have to speed" to do spirited driving BUT spirited driving at the speed limits and if you never track will feel just as fun and feel the same in a 328 as an m3 so again why get an m3 unless its for the badge, which I suspect you did it for. I actually think the 328/330 with NA I6 is more fun at lower speeds to drive the piss out of and redline the engine and it has MORE than enough handling to do anything at street speeds.
So yes any type of spirited driving at the speed limit could be had with a 328 equally well as an m3. The thing is at higher speeds and a track, the m3 provides experience that a 328 could obviously not match. So seems like you should be in a 328 and maybe paste an m3 badge on the back to satisify your badge desires, or slap a sign on your rear window with your yearly income to show people you are better than the car you drive in a 328 |

Hinting that someone doing 40mph over the limit might be a tad irresponsible/dangerous automatically means I'm a undeserving badge-whore who only got an M3 to show off my yearly income? I see ... So Rolf-Dieter, listerone, Darth One, amglol, etc. are all poser badge-whores too. Nice Last edited by Foodle; 12-04-2011 at 12:24 PM.. |

If you are doing 40mph over the limit, sustained, that might be asking for trouble. If you were doing it for a short burst and you were in a residential area where one might find someone pushing a baby carriage, I agree that is irresponsible and stupid. Honestly, you deserve a ticket, if not jail time. If you are doing it in an area with limited visibility, again, not a smart move. Maybe you live in a very urban environment? I do not. I live out in a small town and 10 minutes outside my house it is very rural with some incredible driving roads. Likewise there are stretches of open interstate with clear visibility where one can enjoy a short burst of real speed from time to time. I can't remember the last time I saw someone pushing a baby carriage or a bicyclist for that matter along an interstate. Sorry, I have never been a goodie-two-shoes, and I never will be. Speed is fun. Pure and simple. In fact, I find my mind much more focused and my reflexes much sharper when I am driving fast. I am actually a better driver in this mode. When I am driving slow, part of my brain seems to shut off a bit.

There are times when it is safe to exceed the speed limit, and there are times when one should actually be driving well below the speed limit. I see people driving 60-65 when there is snow, rain, freezing rain, etc. on the roads and I am driving at 50 mph in my AWD winter vehicle with snow tires!!! At the same time, however, on a dry sunny day when there is little to no traffic I may do 85-90 in my M3. I vary my driving based on the actual conditions, not just some arbitrary posted number.

a) I like the car b) for the power under the hood when I need it c) my first M3 saved my life d) so I look at my car as a safe car getting me out of a jam quick e) finally I am retired and have to prove nothing to no one Do I drive fast here and then? You bet I do! I sling shoot past 18 wheelers for I seen tires explode and kill people. Personally a 18 wheeler driver almost pushed me over the cliff with his rig because he was nipping off. That is one of the main reasons I drive a powerful car.

I remember being passed by a Porsche on this road (it was on my way going south from Canada to Vegas) I cannot remember the state still when I see this picture it is just like it was yesterday. I was a young fellow then and drove a Benz 300 series AMG.
I let him pass, then once he was about a mile or so ahead of me I opened up my Benz and overtook him .... I admit I was going real fast then there was no one around just him and I ... then I let him overtake me as he did we exchanged a smile ... Yes I was younger then ... must go back some 30 years now then this picture brought back fabulous memories

wow 11 points?! i thought mine was bad but yours is worst. I got speeding tickets 2 weeks ago in Queens, the cops said i was doing 60 on 30 and so he gave me 6 points and $175 fine. Obviously i was not doing 60 "probably 55" since i set a speed limit reminder on my M that makes that annoying sound, so i should have realize it and plus he does not have the proof. The local people told me that i'm the 6th car of the day that was stopped by the cops, basically they've been hiding and waiting for the prey and i'm of those unlucky ones.

Stopping distance from 105 is almost three times from 65 mph. No car can make up for that with better brakes and tires. That is why speed kills. It's not the difference between hitting somebody at 65 vs 105.
Learned a lesson or waiting for a consequence? |

Not trying to jack this thread but this past Thursday had to pay 450$ to get a 4 pt speeding ticket to no pints in Weehawken NJ. I need a radar/laser detector. Which is better Valentine or Escort 9500?

I have both. The valentine with laser interceptor built in to the M and 9500 in wife's ride. You can't beat the laser interceptor for laser, as far as radar detectors I am regretting not getting the 9500 for the M the gps memory to reduce falses and red light camera alerts are fantastic.
