Here's another for you. 2011.5 E90, about 48k on the clock -- almost entirely highway. Car only got TWS at the 15k intervals (previous owner). I pulled this sample at about 5,000 miles into the current change interval and will leave it in until about 7,500.
Motor appears very healthy. Yes, more proof that highway miles are not very stressful. It was a California car its whole life so it has also never seen very cold temperatures.

Ouch, the oil thickened from oxidation. You needed to change it much sooner.

stretch out the mileage scale for me
Doesn't seem to be too bad considering I've been doing 15,000 mile oil changes. This sample was taken hot from the front sump after driving an hour home. This oil change I have switched to Mobil 1 0W-40.

Received my first Blackstone oil analysis report today. I've been supercharged since the beginning of this oil - about 6230 miles ago. I'd appreciate any feedback. Obvously, I'm looking at bearing wear and condition. 26 is a bit high, but copper (and iron) seems to be in line, so that's good. Take a look. Thanks!

The above two analysis show too much bearing wear. I'd start a set of procedures to start controlling the wear, such as take it easy for the first 5~10 miles of your drive, and inevitably change to M1 0W40 because it just flows so much easier for your cold starts.
My first M1 0W40 analysis showed zero lead wear, and I do lots of short trips with my M3, meaning lots of cold starts. And sometimes I'd let the car sit for a week and a half between drives. Just a thought. |

Go with lighter oil if possible, and shorter oil interval and definitely check with Blackstone again. Maybe the lead would have gone. down. If it were me, I'd be pretty concerned guys...

Well said. The bigger question is, has the lead been consistent from change to change? Every motor will show different levels and we want consistency from UOA to UOA.

Yours (14,399 / 45ppm) = 1ppm of lead for every 320 miles. You have almost double the lead reading. From my analysis of 45 samples show an average of 1ppm for every 1,358 miles so far. It's common practice to change oil every 5-7,500 miles. 15K is a really long time. 0.02 |

There are also other variables. Did everyone drive more than 20 mins before taking their samples? Or did they just start the engine and warm it up. I was running 80-90 mph on the highway for at least 30 mins on my hour drive home prior to taking my sample and boy was that bitch hot. I wonder what the variance in readings are between calibration samples and the different machines Blackstone has. Has anyone questioned what their actual calibration procedure is? I'm sure its in Blackstones interest to have everyone test their samples as often as possible. Just my .02 Last edited by Dannys M3; 11-08-2013 at 02:46 AM.. Reason: sample aquisition |

You are correct -- you can't directly compare two motors. No two motors are alike, and no two drivers are alike. Use UOAs to establish a baseline for your own car and to track how a given oil and change interval is working for your specific situation.

Here's my oil analysis reports.
The 8/17/13 date is with Liquimoly 10w60. 10/26/13 is with Castrol TWS 10w60. (For some reason it won't link from my iPhone photobucket app so I'll have to retry when I get home on the laptop) Car has 56,000 miles at the time of the change. I'm changing roughly every 5,000 to 6,000 miles. Its a daily driven Southern California car. I'm the 2nd owner and the previous owner put on 38,000 Las Vegas miles. Also I keep throttle at less than 1/8 depressed, revs below 3,000 rpm until the oil temp timer turns on. My next sample will be from Mobil 1 0w40. |

You have the best wear #s of any analysis sofar for a car using TWS. Zero lead and 1-2ppm of copper is excellent!
The only person with more miles and 0 lead is using Redline oil. Have you always used TWS? What part of the country do you live in? What warmup procedure do you use? Ever tracked your car? How often does your car see redline? |
